I heard yall wanted Bryce to bulk up this offseason
CRA replied to thebdawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is true. His velocity isn’t great but it’s good enough when he is set properly. Issue is, it is routine in the NFL to have to make lots of throws each week when you simply aren’t able to have ideal mechanics. His height likely increases how often that will be I would think. -

Bryce got heavier and looked more muscular around this time last year too. Probably tough to keep it on for him given his age and the workouts coming. https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2023/07/01/panthers-qb-bryce-young-offseason-weight-workout/ -
I said I don't remember bust talk. I remember other talk about his size in this league, value of the position, etc. Maybe people called him a bust. That's just not what I remember. CMC had a 1100 total yard rookie season...on a team that featured Cam Newton and Jonathan Stewart in the backfield (CMC backed up Stew). So yeah, I just don't buy CMC as basically Bryce Young in some comparison there. That's just me. I mean, your warning was simply not to do specific political ranting in the Carolina Panthers section. And you know you can't do that in this section. And I frankly, only warned you because I made the post disappear. That's isn't generally your style. It's not that serious.

maybe so. I don't remember actual bust talk. That would have been silly. I mean, there were areas he needed improve on and he basically figured all that out after 1 year and immediately solved those issues. I don't love a CMC comparison here though. my personal stance on Bryce hasn't changed much.... fixing Bryce has little to do with Bryce....it has to do with the scheme and O he plays in. It has to suit him and have the weapons. I think Carolina was a bad spot for him and I still largely feel that way. The org is just treating him like some textbook QB that can insert into what others have been doing. Bryce is sort of a unicorn. You got to be all in on unicorns. Not fixated on getting them to do what you do.

"Literally. Nothing," he replied with a laugh. "I was kind of away from football for the most part, just living every other aspect of my life. Just hanging out, being around family, being around friends, getting back to a routine that doesn't revolve as much around football. For me, it was still being able to just enjoy and work out, but the Xs and Os actual football part, kind of stepping away from it. "Legit, it sounds boring, like I'm holding something out, but I'm not. But it's really like I watch YouTube, I watch TV, I watch Netflix, and every once in a while, I'll go someplace to maybe look at some clothes or something. There's nothing really cool that I'm just trying to hang onto. I'm definitely kind of a homebody. I'm an only child, so I'm used to being able to just chill on my own. That's how I decompress. So it's really just that."
-
he already answered that question honestly a few weeks back and it wasn't well received. he got away from football, spent a lot of time alone and watched Netflix and you tube. He eventually added back in working out in the morning. I mean, the honest answer doesn't make you feel good about a struggling rookie QB with a host of issues.

I mean, CMC had almost 1100 total yards and 7 TDs his rookie season. I don't recall people calling him a bust but there was criticism he needed to bulk up and change for the NFL and of course the should you really draft a RB that high talk given what you can get elsewhere. and he spent the offseason putting on tons of muscle and getting jacked. Which was basically the talk of the board as camp approached. And that 1100 season was then followed by an almost 2k season. what did Bryce do? Watched Netflix and you tube....per Bryce. So it's hard to really think we will see a CMC uptick in year 2 when our QB took the offseason off of football.

goal is always to move you from your cheap drinking tailgate areas....into a "better place". Where you can pay someone large sums to drink the same beer you were drinking for cheap.

as an actual fan, I don't give 2 poos about updating to current standards. Updating to current standards is just about money from people that don't care about actual football. I care about having a winning team and a good team. Not much else.

Where will the wins come from? (my early predictions)
CRA replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm largely looking at non-divisional. Division is just weird and that just will be whatever it will be. I break it up into 3rds. Raiders, Chargers, Bengals, Bears Commanders, Broncos, Giants, Bye Chiefs, Cowboys, Eagles, Cardinals I'd rather hit that Raiders clump playing our best ball vs the KC clump. -

Yep. Canales is a first year HC. His OC is a first year OC. Bryce is learning his 2nd O in 2 years. The entire team will be learning a new O going into the season. All that should likely lead to a slow start. So I would much rather the easier part of the schedule be later.....and the team get those opponents once the team is up and running better. I still like the middle of the schedule the best. But yeah, I'd rather just see KC, Dal, Philly, etc early and take those losses then. Get SD, Oak, Chi etc. late when we hopefully start coming into form. -
I might be old but I can't wait to play this game again. Gonna make some kids cry that I know. Because I know the game is going to play the same way it did overall as it did 20 years ago lol.

pump your breaks. There will be open fan tryouts. This isn't a complete clownshow. Best man will win. #Lookingfordawgs

I think going 0-17 is basically as hard as going 17-0. It's the NFL. If someone always has a bad day and a roster full of NFL players makes them pay for it. Really really bad teams can stumble into 1-4 wins. 4 is sort of my things go pretty good benchmark. I don't like the how the schedule is. I'd feel better if it was reversed and we had the backend first. -
scary. Tepper was offering 78 billion for Watson coming off no football and those charges. Dak? Tepper will be like... and we will be forced to play Jimmy Clausen at RB, Darin Gantt at WR, and a huddler at LT.
-
the world indoor Pickleball Championships could be coming to BOA!!
-
Does anything talk about a dome? Tepper did a 180 on a lot to stuff he first talked on. I still think the RH deal was sabatoged intentionally by Tepper simply because being in RH actually made no sense for them and they realized that after it started. Charlotte is where the training facility makes the most practical sense. there was an interview somewhere with Tepper where he said he had the dome part wrong and didn’t want it now. But that could of been BS I guess

We got Teddy B if you shrunk him down and gave him quick feet.

Fitterer was too fixated on that LOB era. It’s why he spent a top 10 pick on a LOB corner despite the team have literally nothing in place. Canales fixation on that old Seattle squad isn’t new. It’s what this franchise has been full of IMO post Rhule’s hiring. We sort of just keep doing the same things to a degree. Canales is young and Frank wasn’t….but neither are innovative. And neither should be calling an O as the HC. And BOTH of them should have had a legit OC vs some newb that forces them into the OC role
-
Yeah, I’m not a fan of HC playcallers. He isn’t even an experienced OC. Seems like a predictably bad load for him to have on him. He needs to just be the cheerleader rah rah coach that manages the game. Basically be Pete Carroll.

I don't get this logic. I mean, John Fox found some success here or there too when his stubborn run game wasn't working well. His risk taking QB would just chuck it up for 89. Baker was chucking it up to Mike Evans. I mean, Pete, Fox, Ron all had their ideal version of how to play football. When the run wasn't working, they all could find some success in the air. It's just inconsistent football for them. Canales’ Tampa team would have had a bad time last year if they were playing in the old NFCS. As in an actual good division. They beat 2 teams with winning records last year and 1 of those opposing QBs was playing hurt. Division was good when Fox was rolling around playing his brand of football. So yeah, he was sneaking into the playoffs by default with a bad run -

Bryce isn't a risk-taking gunslinger. That's just QB DNA. No one has ever said that is what we were drafting when we went that route. That's my point. That's not Bryce. Can you make Alex Smith throw deep? Sure. He will occasionally. In the reverse, can you ask Brett Favre to just take the easy layups? Sure. He can in moments. But in the end, they are what they are. as I have said, Canales probably could win more games with PJ Walker. And Bryce is a better overall QB than PJ. Not suggesting they are comparable QBs. PJ Walker would also have much worse games mixed in that Bryce would. But PJ would take the shots and is built to take them. It's like Jake Delhomme. Jake was making throws Jake probably shouldn't of made....consistently. But that's part of what you need when you are playing the way Fox did. I just think it's a bad fit/pairing. Just like last year was going in. I'll gladly eat crow and be wrong. -

Baker just played how Baker played.... everywhere but here. He is a risk taking gunslinger. Always has been. And last year was asked to be what he was. Geno Smith was the best deep ball passer in the NFL his comeback season. Wasn't even close that year. Again, that's the type passer Canales has always been around in the offenses he has been part of. The pass game that compliments the stubborn run is the deep chunk play pass game. And that was his first investment with XL. My continued point, is the same as going into last season. It's a bad marriage going in. The QB doesn't fit the scheme. Again. Carrol/Fox/Ron....all paired up their boring football with risk taking QBs. And again, I'm fine if that is where we are going. It's not my preference but that's not my argument. I'm saying if we are doing that, we need a QB that matches it. -

I mean, Tampa played in a horrific division. The NFCS. Which featured teams like the Carolina Panthers. By default a NFCS team gets into the playoffs. How did they win a game? Well, their Jake to Smitty connection had a good day. That happens and why they have gunslingers and deep ball WRs. John Fox and Ron Rivera went to the playoffs. They both went to Super Bowls. Pete Carroll? Seattle? Pete ran and played D. That was the Seattle era. Seattle was still just a variation Fox/Ron football mindset. The dude who ran the ball with Marshawn Lynch and played D during that historic run. He was playing that brand of football with great talent. The LOB era was really John Fox football. And it's why those matchups were so fun. -

It's just the 2024 version of 2023's All Star staff talk. Canales has 1 year on the books. And no one would call the 2023 Tampa O innovative. The pro for Canales IMO would be to potentially build a good locker room and energy. Leadership. Something we haven't had much of in the Tepper era. Tepper shouldn't of repeated 2023 mistake of having a HC/OC and trying to groom up an OC. Then Canales could of just focused on being a HC. I don't have an issue w/ Canales' brand of football he ran in Tampa. But you got to have the parts for it. That said, it's basically just a continuation and evolution of Fox/Rivera football. We probably could of just never fired John Fox lol.
