  1. Yeah, and they generally don't even play, so it doesn't matter, they are depth pieces not worth getting upset about. He's a third stringer. If he ends up blocking for Bryce something catastrophic has already gone wrong. All the guys you listed above were under Rivera's old regime, and he was notorious for not understanding how good some players actually were, examples being Silatolu starting over Norwell, and even more recently Wentz and Heineke starting over Howell. Also - Tangent, I feel like Remmers gets unfairly lumped into the list of failed offensive linemen we have trotted out over the years mainly for the super bowl where Shula left him on an island against one of this generations best pass rushers and what happened in 2016 where he had to play LT instead of his more natural position at RT. Remmers was a terrible LT but an average RT and an average RT doesn't belong next to those guys that you mentioned above. Tangent over. Either way, no one is relying on this kid to start any games unless 2 or 3 guys in front of him get injured, which hopefully won't happen. Even if it does you're screwed anyway and should anticipate getting Dennis Daley or Cam Erving levels of play, so why not keep the younger, cheaper option with the chance to develop/get better? If you are in a position to hire people, are you one of those guys that looks at the school they went to and chuck out anyone that went to a community college, or do you actually look at their resumes to see their achievements, work history, and skillset?
  2. I'm not saying he'll be generational, I'm just saying you're putting way too much stock into the pedigree of a backup offensive lineman who showed enough to earn a roster spot over a former first round pick. Talent can be found anywhere, and it's not like we're asking him to be the day 1 starter. Here's a more current list of talent that are pro bowl caliber players who went to non-power schools: Kyle Juszczyk - Harvard James Bradberry - Samford Demario Davis - Arkansas State Tariq Woolen - Texas San Antonio Jeremy Reaves - South Alabama Josh Allen - Wyoming Taylor Moton - Western Michigan Tyreek Hill - West Alabama Maxx Crosby - Eastern Michigan Trey Hendrickson - Florida Atlantic Matt Judon - Grand Valley State Adam Thielen - Minnesota State Jeremy Chinn - Southern Illinois Also harping on one game in college is even more asinine of an argument, I absolutely hate that. "This college beat that college, so this one player obviously sucks". No. poo happens and it's a team game. One game does not mean you suck. "better not draft this pat mahomes guy. He only played at Texas Tech. They never produced a good QB before and they got their ass kicked by Iowa State this past season lolol scrub can't play" TL;DR - Dude is a backup and it doesn't matter where he went to school if he can play. If he beat out the other dudes on the roster who went to bigger schools, more power to him.
  3. Exactly. He should have gone to a powerhouse like Mississippi Valley State like Jerry Rice did. Or Miami of Ohio like Ben Rothlesberger. Or Southern Miss like Brett Favre Or Alcorn State like Steve McNair Or Texas Southern like Michael Strahan Or Buffalo like Khalil Mack Or Louisiana Tech like Willie Roaf Or Jackson State like Walter Payton
  4. Kuntz is a physical FREAK athlete. Had the best combine for a TE ever. No idea if he can ball, but that's one of those guys you kick the tires on.
  5. He might be a victim of the numbers game. We already have Deion Jones and Kamu Grugier-Hill ahead of him at ILB, who are both behind Shaq and Luvu. He really didn't do anything last year, new coaching regime, he might not make the team. Might stick on the PS though.
  6. Bryce is a scrub. If he isn't then why was Purdy selected one spot before Bryce? Checkmate.
  7. They'll draft someone else to replace Shaq, Smith ain't it. He can't diagnose plays fast enough to play at a high level in the pros.
  8. Chark is the speed guy. Dude is pretty damn fast and has been a solid deep threat (When healthy) throughout his career.
  9. Sam Franklin is a legit Special teams gunner, so props where they're due. If nothing else, we can hang our hat on the fact that Rhule got us a pro bowl caliber Special teams gunner.
  10. It's short for Takkito Honest mistake really.
  11. It was his Achilles. Lost all burst after it unfortunately. I was one of those dudes who won my league thanks to him his rookie year. It was a shame to see what happened to him.
  12. My thoughts as well. He played like a backup QB. That's what he's here for. I trust him to win me 1 out of two games if the starter goes down. He's a known commodity and we brought him in more for what he can do to support Bryce, not start for us.
  13. We definitely got more mileage out of CJ than the Jags got out of Arnold. Neither team really "Won", but we used our guy more. Also, no to bringing him back. This fanbase has a weird obsession with him. He did nothing and Hurst is a better TE.
  14. Didn't want to start an entire thread about this, but I wanted to give ol' college bra his flowers. Matty Rice was good in the booth. It was cool hearing little tidbits and insights to what it was like playing in the NFC South forever and some memories/interactions he had with us.
  15. Dalton looked like a backup QB. He's been around long enough for me to trust him to go .500 in the event the starter goes down. That's about as much as you can ask for your backup. Corral looked like a third stringer with his accuracy.
  16. I like Hurst. I Love Duce. Hypest of coaches.
  17. If anyone can get the best out of him it's Steichen, so I'm interested to see how he develops. He was my #2 QB behind Bryce, would have been happy with either.
  18. Because he's absolutely awful my guy. He is just really really bad at football. Jeremy Chinn is who Simmons was supposed to be, and he's already on our team.
  19. Winning and losing doesn't matter in the preseason. Also, I'm going to clear up something from my thread the other day: Individual evaluations matter and the team as a whole has not looked good. I am not hitting the panic button though because I EXPECT us not to look great right out of the gate. I'm not worried though. We have a new coaching staff, new QB, new WRs 1, 2, and 3, new RB, and new TE, all of which have never played together. There are only 10 training camp practices with the current CBA, so there is roughly a two week period where every one of those new people are trying to get acclimated with each other and figure out how each other plays and coaches. This takes some time. Every one of the "failures" we see during the preseason is a learning opportunity for this team on how to play better with each other. These issues will eventually get ironed out, but don't think it will happen over night. So I'm exercising patience and not sweating poor preseason performances. This staff isn't nearly as incompetent as Rhule's was on paper, so I don't anticipate it taking 7 years like we previously had to sit through. We are this year's Jaguars. It took them about half the year to wash the stench of Urban Meyer off and find their footing. I anticipate something similar happening with us.
  20. Our ceiling is 17-0 Our REALISTIC ceiling is probably 10-7 Our realistic outcome is probably between 7-10 and 9-8
  21. I need you all to understand, that even if we were blowing everyone out 31-6 each game, I would feel the exact same way about this topic, because it's the preseason and it doesn't matter.
  22. Dear lord some of you people seriously can't comprehend the coaches aren't actually coaching to win a preseason game can you? You are already writing the season off before they play a single meaningful snap of football. If we end up sucking, I guess you can look back and say how right you were about us becuase of our awful preseason, but I can't be worried about meaningless scrimmage games myself. Worrying about something just means you suffer through it twice.
