Worst Kept Secret at the Senior bowl (Panthers Interest in Pickett)
ForJimmy replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson won Super Bowls. Jimmy G had a shot this year. What are you going by for top 10? I mean he looked solid and was a rookie. Is he limited? Sure, but you can still cater an offense around his accuracy, and ability to quickly process a defense. -
Worst Kept Secret at the Senior bowl (Panthers Interest in Pickett)

It’s the same thing everyone was saying about Mac. If they don’t have cannons for arms the Huddle doesn’t think they can make it in the NFL. Pickett isn’t my top choice, but he is good at extending plays and making his reads. Seems pretty cerebral kind of like a Mac Jones that can scramble better and maybe has a stronger arm. It’s like you said though, will Rhule develop him properly and create an offense around his strengths like the Pats did with Mac? Doubt it… -
I was kind of thinking that. Hopefully we are pumping up the top 2 ranked QBs to get a team to trade with us or jump us and have a top 5 talent fall to us. I could see a team like the Steelers who seem to be high on Willis and Pickett trade up with us to grab their QB. This would allow us to take Howell with their pick and acquire more draft capital. Surely we are naming two QBs we are actually wanting to draft, but who knows with this staff…

https://withthefirstpick.com/2021/12/16/nfl-draft-expert-kenny-pickett/amp/ There is where Kiper compares him to Carr. There are some similarities, but I can see concerns that you could have as well.

I’m not really a Pickett fan, but he can actually read a defense. I think of him as a more mobile Mac Jones. His arm is adequate, probably below average. Scouts are comparing him to Derek Carr. I’m not a fan of him at 6, but Carr is 100x better than Darnold. Honestly I was more concerned with the poster you were agreeing with writing off ALL the QBs after watching a Senior Bowl…
-
Yeah I think it’s an old school way of thinking, back when the 1st round QBs were making a ton of money. Most teams try to give the drafted QBs a few years to develop, so there is that plus the player you could have drafted instead.
-
Man just look at who you are agreeing with. Bunch of nonsense. Pickett did nothing to hurt his draft status 6/6 89 yards and a TD, Willis has teams zeroing in on him from his practices and Howell made a bunch of something out of nothing like he did all year. Ridder and Pickett were the only QBs who really had a pocket to work with, but as it’s been stated this game isn’t going to be taken too seriously by scouts. They just wanted to see the players up close, and listen to the interviews etc…

I don’t know if anyone will trade up for us to trade back. Is Glass projected to go in the 2nd?
-
https://www.si.com/college/hbcu/.amp/swac/glass-touchdown-pass-bowl-game-2022 Some more info on Glass.
-
Honestly he has a ton of ability and a high ceiling. I wonder where he is currently projected? If we grab an elite OL, then Glass in the 4th/5th, I wouldn’t be mad…
-
I was hoping he get get on as a backup somewhere, but his arm didn’t look good at all…

The Darnold move was more of Rhule banking on himself, thinking he was the smartest coach in the league. No one else was that interested for a reason and we were basically bidding against ourselves. The his arrogance jumps to a $18.5 million extension because he was so confident he could “fix” a QB the league had already given up on… If McAdoo really liked Allen and Mahomes the best in their class, he is liking the higher risk/reward QBs. If he is having any influence and we are looking at QBs, Willis probably has his attention. Rhule might be still thinking he can fix Darnold…
-
You think Rhule is smart enough to move Chinn back to LB?
-
An entire offseason, plus most rookie QBs struggle at first. The only one who looked ok early was Mac last year in a “loaded” QB class (and he ran a basic run first offense). These scouts are looking at their mental and physical abilities and seeing if some of the best minds/coaches in sports can help mold them into NFL stars. I agree 100%.
-
Oh yeah we need one. We need a LB too, but we better not draft one of those at 6 either.
-
No YOU are a backup QB at best!
-
I don’t want a safety a 6 when we have so many holes and no 2nd/3rd pick. That would be awful…
-
Yeah he is a tough player.
-
Howell and Willis are slippery in the pocket.
-
That might be the most fair assessment I’ve read yet.
-
I believe it was Strong.

I’m watching the game. Pickett has been fine, Howell is getting sacked like his UNC OL is still blocking for him. Willis showed his speed/elusiveness will translate well. Pickett missed 0 passes and got a TD. (That’s considered good)
-
I mean he has been perfect… Again I don’t want us drafting him, but let’s be honest you weren’t going to give any of them credit today because you have been against this class from the beginning. Then again you said we could go safety at 6…
-
Not a Pickett fan, but he has been perfect 6/6 89 yards and a TD. Some people are going to criticize him no matter what he does. He reminds me of a more mobile Mac Jones, which isn’t really a bad thing.
