Hey Saints. Sorry we took the player you wanted.
Proudiddy replied to Panthercougar68's topic in Carolina Panthers
Man, idk what it is, but Payton has it out for us. I know I'm biased, obviously, but it just doesn't seem like they're ever competing with Tampa and Atlanta for the same players in the draft or FA, but especially the draft. Yet, every year, we hear these stories and this behind the scenes chess game being played where they know who we want or target and they do everything they can to maneuver around us to get them. And I'll never forget that last game where we brought in Steven's last year after all that happened with him and them, and the camera went to the sideline everytime Steven's came in and Payton kept doing that arrogant, dismissive laugh. Dude is a certified asshole. -

Good any day we get a chance to screw them before they screw us is a good day. I'm telling you, those MFs live to ruin our plans. -
Love Jaycee Horn and he was third on my board, but...
Proudiddy replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree. Just wanted to share my concerns. Like I said, I LOVE Horn and wanted him, even at 8 if that's how it shook out, and it did... but, I was surprised Fields was still there too. The lamenting after the fact is really because I believe in Fields more than Darnold, and no matter what else we do this offseason, everything hinges on whether or not Darnold is even an average QB, and that's scary. Regardless of that, I definitely look forward to seeing Horn develop into the dominant force I think he will become. -

Not necessarily surefire, but I definitely believe in him more than Darnold. I didnt like Darnold coming out of USC, and what he showed in NY was exactly about what I expected from him when he was drafted. Now, yes, Gase is a trainwreck and that certainly didn't help... but again, it's concerning. I KNOW Fields ceiling is exponentially higher than Darnold's, and I think his floor is higher too. -

No doubt. Like I said, I love Horn and I don't want my doubt over the QB position to cloud or obscure that... I love him as a player and I legit believe we just got a guy that takes away a side of the field on his own and possibly may become the best CB in the league. Other teams will envy us for Horn. I'm just really concerned about Darnold, and us waiting to exercise the 5th year option until after the first round, paired with their previous belief in Bridgewater... it's hard for me to shake that cloud hovering over us with it being the most important position on a team. -
We have to hope Darnold is who the staff and organization is advertising him to be, because if we had the chance to pick a dynamic, franchise QB and didn't, and Darnold ends up being a Bridgewater 2.0, there will be hell to pay. Again, I love Jaycee as a player and had him as third on my meaningless personal big board. So, I liked him, and wanted him, and he fit a need. But, I also had Fields as my first option, and he was available at our pick, Sewell was gone, so Horn became the second option. Now, if Darnold comes out here and plays like a beast, while Fitt has now put together his version of LOB East, no one will even blink. That is obviously the scenario I'm hoping for, but I really worry we passed up on a real franchise QB with a stopgap in place. I really think them pushing all their chips in on Darnold will decide the fate of this staff. If they got it right, they are secure and look like geniuses. But, if they got it wrong, we passed up on a gamechanging QB with a top 10 pick this year, and will likely finish with a better record than 2020, even if Darnold is bad, which means we are picking further back in the draft... and as the last few years have shown, it is becoming increasingly hard to land a franchise QB in the middle to later picks. So, to be brief, if we weren't sure about Darnold, picking in the top 10 was our best bet to shore up the QB spot long-term. Again, I love Horn, but considering this staff dumped a beloved franchise QB, that even if he didn't have a right arm, still would've been more productive than the guy they paid 24M to replace him with and publicly gushed over before realizing how wrong they were and trading him away after 1 year... I'm just really concerned. Taking Horn in and of itself is an A+ move in my book, and I love the idea that we just drafted a guy that will shutdown opposing 1s and take away a whole side of the field on his own... but, as I said numerous times last season, you can get every other position on the field right, but if you get QB wrong, none of it will matter. And after the chickenshit they tried to shovel down our throats as chicken salad last year at QB, I'm worried about the position, regardless of what else we've done. The fact we waited to exercise Darnold's 5th year option until after passing on Fields in the first-round even seems indecisive on the organization's part in terms of their belief in Darnold.

Dont let the haters discourage you, Verge. You are appreciated and so is what you share. Thank you.

Didn't the guy with the hyphenated name from USC play tackle this year? Is he projected there in the pros? I've heard good things. Edit: Nevermind he just got picked. Regardless, whoever is there at the end of the first, I'm all for moving up. Last time we went back into the first for a tackle, it was Otah, who had it not been for injuries, would've been a hell of a player.

Matt Rhule on Jaycee Horn - Why he is the best fit
Proudiddy replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not mad at it at all. As I stated all day, Horn was a top 3 guy for me, and with how the picks shook out, he was 1st or 2nd at the time we picked. And considering what the Hawks did at CB while Fitt was there, I 100% believe in his evaluation and selection of this pick. He checks all the boxes for a shutdown corner. -
Matt Rhule on Jaycee Horn - Why he is the best fit

I figured as much when we used up all the clock, but if he was our top prospecr on the board, it worked out bc if we hadn't taken him, I think the Broncos would have. -
Round 1 - Carolina Panthers Select CB Jaycee Horn
Proudiddy replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wanted our pick from Sewell, Fields, and Horn... so I'm not mad at the pick, although its a bit underwhelming for where we were. It would look a lot better if we could've found a partner to trade back a few picks, but then again, Denver took Surtain at 8, so he probably wouldn't have been there if we moved back. So, if we just got a Revis for the next 10+ years, we just made a great pick. I just really hope they are right on Darnold, but after their belief in Bridgewater, color me concerned. -
Interesting to see where we go. I think we used up all the clock trying to trade back and couldn't find a partner..
-
Lol, called the commercial break.
-
Wow. Was hoping we had our choice between Fields and Sewell. I'm guessing we trade back now for Slater or Horn.
-
Gotta think MIA takes Sewell. I just don't see who else it could be.
-
One thing is for sure... if the first commercial break was at pick 5, the next one will be at #8.
-
NGL, I jokingly said only thing they could do that would make me quit being a fan is trading for Bridgewater back... but, now that Mac is still on the board, I am scared shitless.
-
Yup, I never believed they traded that much for Mac Jones. That would be insane. I have a feeling Mac is the guy who slides... Fields is coming off the board soon.
-
Here we go
-
This pick is what we've all been waiting on... it's what is really gonna shape this top 10.
-
I always love your posts and shared intel, Verge, and trust it 100%. I do think one of those teams, especially the Niners are blowing smoke though. I think the top 10 picks or so hinge on that Mac Jones pick and where Fields goes...
-
Yeah, I mean, we'll see what happens. Like I said, I'm not panicking or raging over what's done lol. I know we are getting a potentially great player at a position of need regardless of how it shakes out, but I feel a potential franchise QB or LT is a bigger get/need for us than a lockdown CB or Receiving TE. That being said, I wouldn't be mad with Horn one bit.
-
I think its just due diligence. I think the odds are a lot higher that we trade back. Fit said we would be in on every deal, so I assume it's just to gauge cost. That being said, to everyone arguing with me about hat Washington loss... imagine trading up now.
-
If it works that way, fantastic. But, going from the 4th pick to 8th pick left us at the mercy of a lot more teams and their predilections.
