Can Sam Darnold play himself into becoming the 2023 starter?
TLGPanthersFan replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
If we bring Darnold back, I hope to god we don’t, it needs to be a minimal as possible and if he doesn’t take it, whatever. -
In a better division they would already be out of the playoffs. So no I disagree they did not earn a spot in the playoffs and this team definitely does not deserve to make it. It just irritates me when people on this board actually think we can beat the Vikings, Cowboys, Eagles or Niners. The talent gap between us and all those teams is monumental. Also if somehow this team flukes it way into the Super Bowl we would get destroyed by the Bengals, Chiefs or Bills. If we make it to the playoffs cool. But I wish people would stop acting like this team has any chance of actually doing something in the playoffs. Whoever faces us gets a free win and we get a participation trophy. I would rather have a team that deserved to make the playoffs and Super Bowl. Not a team that lucked its way in because its division is poo. The 2014 when they made the playoffs they were playing like the 2013 team at that point because they were finally healthy, for the most part. They were a 12-4 team trapped in a 7-8-1 team. That team could have made the Super Bowl and deserved to make the playoffs, imo. This team does not. But if people want to live in fantasy land more power to them. I prefer to live in reality.

I just can’t trust this team. I still feel the shoe will drop. We were really bad against actual playoff teams. If we face the Niners or Eagles it will likely be a blowout. Niners defense is made to destroy QBs like Darnold.

Last year. Also you keep mentioning 1-5 record and yes it does matter. An interim HC having success when he is made interim is not abnormal. Most interims have success because they are injecting some newness into the team. Wilks success isn’t surprising. But, as I said before, stats don’t lie. Unless he has become some savant HC after he flamed out in Arizona. He will either make the playoffs but never make the Super Bowl. Fail once he has control because he isn’t a good HC. -

Well against every team we potentially play against in the playoffs we can’t rely on running the ball 100 percent. Like we ain’t running for 150 yards against the Cowboys. -

No proof that Bisaccia wouldn’t fall on his face like every interim HC that has before him. Again, NO interim HC has ever had success in the playoffs and none have ever made the Super Bowl. I believe stats speak volumes and are right more often then wrong. -

People are really hanging onto that 2014 season for some reason. The 2014 team would eat this team for lunch and we ain’t gonna get lucky and play a team without their starting QB. -
MMQB: Breer on Wilks/potential OC candidate
TLGPanthersFan replied to *FreeFua*'s topic in Carolina Panthers
Why get a potential 8 or 9 out of 10. When we can settle for a 5 or 6 because the previous coach was a 1 or 2. People really still don’t realize how bad Rhule was and how Wilks, just by proxy, is always gonna look better. Maybe, if he is hired, he will be the interim outlier and be a good HC. But stats do not lie that he will likely fall on his face once he has full control. No interim coach has ever made the Super Bowl and only a few have had very little playoff success. Most flame out and fail. -

I cannot get rid of the feeling hiring Wilks is gonna be a HUGE mistake. -
David Tepper is keen on Will Levis
TLGPanthersFan replied to Chris Smitty's topic in Carolina Panthers
I know I was just listing QBs that Tepper wanted not that he had an actual chance of getting them. So his choice of QB hasn’t been bad. -

FIFY. Tepper wanted Fields, Hubert and Burrow. All have turned out okay. -
Top 10 offense and top 10 defense that 1996 Panthers team had. Doesn’t matter if the Cowboys were favored then. It is not the same when they are favored now. So stop comparing the two. This team offense and defense is in the 20s. We have no chance to beat the Cowboys, a team that beat the Eagles and is averaging 30 points a game. Top 10 offense and defense. Wilks wants to run the ball. No gonna be able to do that only against the Cowboys. They are a Super Bowl contender. But you keep believing, foolishly, that this team has a chance to do anything in the playoffs. I’ll keep living in reality.

That 1996 team was 12-4. 12-4. Do NOT compare this team to that team. The 1996 team deserved to be in the playoff and beat the Cowboys. This team is only potentially in the playoffs because the division is poo.

Hackett wasn’t a good OC and his only good year was with Aaron Rodgers. -

I cannot believe the Saints and Bucs want to keep their HC. Both of them were terrible coaches before and they are the reason their team sucks. Especially with Bowles and the Bucs. -
Because no coach has ever been given a 2 year deal. Probably because they would not take it. Wilks would be told to win now or be fired. Pretty much if he flames out next season he likely won't be retained. Dennis Allen got a 3 year deal and I expect, at a minimum Wilks would want that. Year one: Establish his team. Year Two: See improvement and possibly be in contention for a playoff spot. Year Three: Be a contender.
