Bryce Young post benching if it were a full season worth of stats.
frankw replied to Car123's topic in Carolina Panthers
He is 2nd in passing yards 2nd in passing yards per game 4th in TD's 3rd in completion percentage. Obviously the Lions have a tremendous amount of talent on their roster compared to us but Goff is plainly really good at what he does and he's remained a competitive QB in the past with less and on a different team. You guys need to realize you aren't even being consistent between takes here because your whole position revolves around you accusing others of unfairly scrutinizing Bryce and what you're doing diminishing others isn't any different or better. You look silly. -

Jared Goff is #2 in the NFL in yards per attempt and yards per game. We can have conversations without embarrassing ourselves off a cliff. -

Seems in the eyes of some every player on the roster not named Bryce Young is just a pawn waiting to be thrown under the bus. Bryce hasn't earned that kind of sway no matter how many keystrokes some folks here want to waste arguing otherwise. -

Goff might have won a Super Bowl with the Rams if Brandin Cooks didn't have butterfingers at the worst moment. Goff has been diminished for years. Is he a great QB? No. Is he one of the better QB's over the last several years even when his supporting cast hasn't been what it is now? Yes. And you can win with and compete for a Super Bowl with that. The what if scenarios are exhausting at this point and are beyond a dead beaten horse. Bryce will have to make do with what we've got next season which should also include a much needed revamped defensive roster which IMO is more important than surrounding him with elite weapons. -

So we're diminishing Goff too now? Cool story bruv. -

On the other end there were fans and media talking heads who just "knew" CJ Stroud wasn't a natural leader because some anonymous source said so and because he didn't attend Peyton Manning's QB camp. -

Ideally you want your QB to be able to use their legs situationally and certainly have good scrambling ability. That was something that was on his tape in college. He moved around and made something out of nothing often. But you do not want to make a habit out of him running in the open field with the ball for a number of reasons. That's all I've been saying. -
For me it's difficult to forget Matt Ryan telling the Panthers to "get the f*ck off our field" in Sept 2012 so that makes the Dec 9th win against them at home all the more special. And then the next season we blew them out at home and beat them in Atlanta too. We didn't know how good we truly had it back then.

Before the draft he was being compared to Drew Brees Peyton Manning Patrick Mahomes Steph Curry Michael Jordan and Bruce Lee among others. He's not playing like one of the worst QB's in the league anymore which is good. But mentioning him in the same breath as current elite QB's among their peers is no less jumping to conclusions than anyone else on the other end of the spectrum. -

Cam Newton paved the way for a lot of these QB's you see now. Good and bad. Good in the sense that now it is commonplace to see it in within a QB's toolbox but bad in the sense that said QB's and their coaches know there has to be a balance and when it comes down to it more often than not you win rings throwing the ball. As far as this conversation my issue was less with the rushing TD's but more egregiously combining passing and rushing yards as if Bryce Young is going to be a continued running threat when all it's going to take is one defender laying the wood on him like what happened to Sam Darnold (remember Sam Newton?) against the Falcons and that will be the end of it. -

Jalen Hurts has been very up and down but Goff and Daniels have been playing like elite QB's. I can't put Bryce Young in the same conversation with them as of right now. How about we let Bryce Young play a season where he doesn't have games so ugly we have to exclude them from the sample size before we say who he's better than? -

I mean we've long discussed the fact that Cam did not live up to his outrageous phsyical traits as a passer because he never put his game together fully in that area. He didn't perfect the fundamentals. But anyone with eyes when putting his name next to Bridgewater should be able to tell the glaring difference between the two. Bryce Young is one of the smallest starting QB's in the league. We drafted him to be a passing point guard who would elevate those around him. That's all we heard predraft. That's how he will succeed in this league if it is to happen. -

One holds the record for rushing TD's for a QB the other is smaller than some high school QB's. If Bryce succeeds in the NFL it will be as a passer. -

There is a very wide gap between the two in terms of arm talent. Cam never got his accuracy down until the end. If he had he would be having a different conversation about that. It is what it is. -

Half the team is complete ass so we could afford to put maulers in front of Bryce Young. Nobody is asking for him to carry the team. But next season we have to see him maximize opportunities and not just when things go well but when the chips are down too. -

We had these same discussions even with Cam. When it comes down to it what a QB does with his arm is more important if you want to win a championship. And that's not even mentioning the fact that Bryce running the ball the way he did against Arizona is not even the slightest bit sustainable for reasons that are extremely obvious. -

Why is this all you want to talk about? If we have to surround Bryce with elite talent across the board just to get him to scratch the surface of a Teddy Bridgewater then we keep looking. -

He played well against the Cardinals in what was largely held together by the run game. We got stomped by the Cowboys and Bucs. I can appreciate being a fan wanting to be on the optimistic side but using words like clutch is veering into hopium territory. -
The option is a given. And at this point considering our list of needs going forward you also have to see where he stands on an extension now rather than later.

It took Bryce 10 extra games to surpass Kyle Allen's 13 games worth of passing yardage from 2019. In a down year for passing offense. -
Kevin O'Connell had only 2 full seasons of work as an offensive coordinator before being hired and one of those was with Washington. He's made a big jump in his third season. I'm hoping to see similar from Canales. As far as Darnold goes it's really going to be interesting to see how he adjusts to the playoff atmosphere. I'm expecting to see some flashes of the old Darnold. The question will be can the new Darnold overcome that when the lights are the brightest.

McCaffrey played in 3 games that season. Of the current receiving group Legette has been really frustrating to say the least but the rest of the group has plenty of potential going forward. But Bryce has one of the best OL's in the league that is also the most expensive too. We have a slew of needs on defense. There will likely be another offensive addition or two down the line but it's going to be up to Bryce to make do with what he's got next season while we rebuild the defensive roster. -

Why combine passing and rushing yards and touchdowns like he's Cam Newton? Well I can already tell it's gonna be a long offseason ahead As far as where he is now visually I think we can all agree he looks like a different QB. But that also requires acknowledging he was literally a bottom 5 passer amongst all active QB's previously. As far as this and hypothetical numbers we could engage in exercises like this all day long and make things fit whichever narrative we seek. Let's take a look at where Teddy would rank if he had his 2020 numbers this season. Teddy Bridgewater would be: 10th in passing yards this season 9th in passing yards per game 8th in yards per attempt 8th in completion percentage The simple fact of the matter is Bryce Young is a first overall pick. No matter what anyone here says or anyone in the media says he and we know the expectations that will be set forth for next season. Low end Teddy Bridgewater and Kyle Allen numbers aren't going to cut it regardless of any discussion of supporting cast. The big jump has to happen next season. -
No context or reasoning for the placement. But Bryce Young and Michael Penix Jr have a higher stock than CJ Stroud? We'll see how that take ages.
