  1. Better TE play + more practice == RZ troubles are solved? I'm here for it
  2. Can't wait for Carter to get opportunities this year.
  3. Make sure to get yourself some Rodney Scott's BBQ downtown while you're here. He's literally the best.
  4. Clay Johnston and Matt Paradis also out today
  5. Bah Gawd, that was somebody's son that he did that to
  6. Not at all. I am showing how bad Darnold's situation was with the level of coaching and talent he received as the youngest starting player since the merger due to statements like, "If Justin Fields fails in the NFL it isn't going to be for a lack of effort, talent or preparedness. The kids saying and doing all the right things." That leaves three options *if* Fields ends up not being successful (we are in agreement that the kid is gonna be good): health concerns, surrounding talent, and coaching. Sam's lack of success in New York was not due to a lack of work ethic & preparedness. It could have been due to talent, but he definitely had health concerns (never played a full season), awful surrounding talent outside of Robby, and horrendous coaching. That's my reason for hammering on this.
  7. Jermaine Carter Jr being more effective than Shaq?
  8. I was REALLY hoping for Slater with Sewell gone, but Horn was the guy so now I've got his back as well. Slater's been doing incredibly well with the Chargers from what reports are saying, stonewalling Bosa twice in 1v1s.
  9. You can't Linville this one with double talk bubba I'm all for being excited for Fields. Hell, I'm excited for Fields! I'm excited for him to put the rest the "one read QB" narrative that was clearly false. The issue here though is that you're proposing that Sam's issues were his lack of effort, work ethic, etc while saying that if Fields has similar issues that it can't be the same from him. However, from all reports, Darnold's preparation & work ethic was never the issue. The issue was and always has been the talent that he was forced to work with as well as the coaching staff. Fields has better talent (though admittedly not that much better) but his coaching staff is clearly better than what Darnold had to work with. We've only talked about offensive supporting cast when Fields has a defense backing him that Darnold never had anything close to that. Gase has 1 winning season out of 4. Matt has 1 winning season out of 3, but those other 2 seasons were 8-8. Gase's? 6-10, 7-9, 7-9, 2-14. The lack of consistency in the criticism is glaring.
  10. Darnold was just as hyped up his first offseason as well. This isn't exclusive to Fields. As far as the Bears go, they might not have great coaches but they have significantly better coaches than the Jets did during Darnold's time there. As far as supporting cast, while Robinson is the only "stud" of the supporting cast, he's got some pretty damn good talent surrounding him in Jimmy Graham, Jesse James, Cole Kmet, Dazz Newsome, Khalil Herbert, James Daniels, and Cody Whitehair. Compare that to Darnold's rookie year when his only "stud" was Robby. His RB? Bilal Powell. TE? Chris Herndon. OL? He had a declining Kelvin Beachum and Brian Winters to talk about. When we speak about accomplishments... what in the Hell have the Jets accomplished besides finding new ways to fail? Hell, at least the Bears had some success to talk about going back to Urlacher. Teddy was also already around for Darnold in NYJ his rookie season (along with Josh McCown). There's literally nothing to support the idea that he didn't work hard, didn't take practice seriously, didn't study enough, wasn't enough of a vocal leader, etc. We get that you're high on Fields and you're happy that he's doing things right. That's great! However, to imply that Darnold was not putting in the work as well and giving Adam Gase a pass while preparing to blame Matt Nagy is incredibly biased. "The one major thing the Jets didn't try was giving him a real threat of competition where the backup could take his job before the season started," is an absolutely ridiculous statement to make though. They didn't give him any major help, so what would have competition mattered? Jamison Crowder and the shell of Le'Veon Bell were help? Breshard Perriman and George Fant were help? Joe Flacco was brought in as well, and while Flacco was well past his best years that's still a presence in the QB room to look out for. Sam Darnold didn't need competition and he didn't need tweets proving his work ethic. He needed a competent coaching staff to help develop the youngest player to start since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 and talent to be surrounded by, which he got neither. You can be happy for Fields without disparaging Darnold.
  11. I'm not saying that you're planning on him to fail, I very much remember him being your favourite QB prospect in the draft. However, with what you're advocating for here (taking Fields @ #8 after already trading a 2nd for the #3 overall pick from 2018), it sounds like you don't believe that Sam Darnold has the effort, talent, or work ethic to be the team's QB. This context is further reinforced by statements like this: Fields doesn't need another first round QB on the roster to inspire him to work, but Darnold does? Do you see how these statements can give the impression that I'm pointing out?
  12. It sounds like if Fields fails, you're blaming coaching. In that case, is Adam Gase a better coach than Matt Nagy then? I hope that's not the case https://ftw.usatoday.com/2020/10/jets-adam-gase-ripped-for-putting-sam-darnold-back-in
  13. Interesting structure. The final two seasons for $81.5M total not being guaranteed gives the Bills freedom to negotiate in 2025 and if no dice, they can cut or roll with him for another season while searching for a replacement. Wondering if Beane is thinking Allen will run into health issues like Cam did.
  14. It's a difficult decision, given the state of the OL. Might be worth giving him at least 2 drives in the first two games each and then sit or just do a single drive in the 3rd game.
  15. Hence his likely sharing return duty with Cannon who has xp returning punts
