I can't tell if this means the Browns are going to draft a QB #2 now, or if they're going to use this as a chance to just blow it all up and trade the pick to the Giants or Raiders. Can see both sides of it, this is their chance to get a new QB, or they realize they're going to be in cap hell for a couple years because of the dead hits from Watson and just go full on re-build mode for a year or two and hope for the #1 pick next year in a better QB draft.

To me it more means Glenn knows he's getting a different job already, like New Orleans.

Realistically I think this only could apply to 2 teams, possibly a 3rd There were questions if the Dolphins would move on from McDaniel, so I could see them interested. People have long wondered what an early playoff loss would mean for Siriani, so maybe Philly would want to. And a very outside chance I could see Shanahan want to work with Caleb and the 49ers look for a deal. Can't see the Bears interested in any other HC right now that the team would be willing to talk about a trade.
-
Strongly disagree... I think he's taking the smartest approach any HC candidate has taken in a LONG time, maybe ever. He's still only 38 years old and only been an OC for 3 years. He knows how this league is, no matter how great of a football mind you have, most coaches only get one shot at being a HC, and if it doesn't go well, they likely capped their future career opportunities as coordinators. He is in an OUTSTANDING situation for a coach in his situation. Because as someone else said, Campbell isn't really an X's and O's coach, he's a rah rah type of coach who depends a lot on his coordinators. So Johnson gets to learn how to be a leader of a football team from one of the best in the league, which for a 38 year old coach, is almost impossible to quantify how important that is for him. While also having a truly elite offense to work with as they have everything, one of the best OL's, one of the best WRs, and maybe the best RB room in the entire league. In league circles, I'm sure Johnson gets more credit for the Lions actual play than Campbell does, especially this year with their defense being so bad because of injuries and being carried by an elite offense that Campbell has little to do with. So he's doing nothing but increasing his stock throughout the league by staying there and turning the Lions of all franchises into an offensive juggernaut and a true SB contender. Teams aren't going to stop wanting to hire him and he's only 38, there's no reason for him to take just any job offered to him as opposed to waiting for the one he thinks is the perfect fit for him. I still think he would be the Chargers HC right now if Harbaugh didn't decide to go back to the NFL, and when he didn't get that last year, he was fine waiting again for the right opportunity to arise.

Don't believe me all you want, but he will be.
-
Yep, except I think he'll be more useful than Odell has been, because while he won't have the game breaking speed that's made him a HOFer. He'll still be plenty fast enough to get used, particularly on gadget plays or just getting the ball to him on a screen and let him run with it. But his days of being a 1,500+ guy who defenses need to spend all week game planning for will disappear in an instant when he can't just run past everyone with ease as he's done throughout his career. And again, he might have reached that tipping point this year, because as bad as Miami was, Tua still played in 11 games and Tyreek took a big step back this year. I'll be honest in that I didn't watch most of their games, so part of it is looking at stats here, but something tells me he's already lost a tiny bit of that speed, and if he loses a tiny fraction again going into next year, he won't crack 1,000 yards again.
-
By watching the tape and watching the QB and seeing where he looks first? Seems kinda obvious on that one, no? lol And yes, I know sometimes QB's will look off a DB, but in general, you can tell who the first read was when watching the tape post game.

If we move back from 8 to 14, we better be getting a 1st next year out of the deal Which I can't see someone giving up in this draft unless someone very unexpectedly falls to us, and if they would, we probably should just be taking whatever player is sitting there and worth it to make that offer as it probably would be one of T-Mac, Johnson, or Graham. Any of whom if they fall to 8 we should be jumping all over as I think they all are Top 7 picks for sure, just a matter of order based on team needs.
-
HELLLLLLLLLLL NO Would I love Crosby? Of course Are we in any position to give up the multiple 1sts they'd need in return for him? No fuging way Too many holes to give up at minimum 2 firsts, and possibly more, that the Raiders would need to trade him away.
-
But for him it's not even slowing down in the same way someone like Hopkins has slowed down, as Hopkins is still a great route runner with truly elite hands. Once Hill loses a quarter of a step, he's going to fall off a cliff because it takes away his difference making ability, if he can't just out run defenders, he's nowhere near the same player. If I'm a team, I'd rather miss out on his last year of being elite than get stuck with him when he falls off that cliff in a hurry, and this might have been that year that he started to lose that step and next year he's just going to be another small WR with speed, but not the game breaking speed he's had until now.

Literally makes no sense when T-Mac is going to be the better player, he’s younger, and would be on a rookie contract Just think of it the other way around, if the Jets have the 7th and 8th pick after trading Wilson and T-Mac is there, it means they’re taking him. why would we want to be on the end of the deal that gets the player with a lower ceiling, is older, and will cost more money over the next 4 years? the only advantage Wilson has over T-Mac might be during his rookie year while he gets used to the NFL game, but by year 2 it won’t even be a debate who is better. T-Mac will be a Top 5 WR by the time he needs his 2nd contract, I’m 100% convinced of it
-
Most rookies get their extensions done after their 3rd season, and if you trade for the player at that time, they’re going to force you to give them the extension then, they’ll have all the leverage, especially if you gave up a first to get them
-
Uh, no... if T-Mac is there at 8 and we trade that for Wilson and give him the contract, it would be the most inept move imaginable. T-Mac > Wilson before T-Mac's 2nd season in the league is over.
-
If XL is being included, more like next year's 3rd, don't like going another year without a 2nd round pick. But again, I'm not doing that if I'm the Jets as some contender would give them their 1st rounder for him in a heartbeat. For example, if I'm the Chargers, I'm offering up my 1st this year and probably additional assets on top of that. Herbert, Wilson, Ladd, and a Harbaugh offense would be downright scary.
-
Yes, but again, it's not an anti-Wilson thing, it's solely allocation of resources. If the Jets were to be dumb enough to trade us Wilson for non 1st round picks, it totally changes my mind on going after him, but I really can't see any way they do that, he's too young and good for them to trade him for anything less than at least a 1st, which is something almost any contender who needs a WR would be willing to give them. If we're trying to trade for a WR, I'd rather go after someone like DK Metcalf who is a few years older and likely could be had for less of draft capital because trading him would also free up cap room for Seattle.
-
Yes, but my point is for the same cap room we could have Burden and a legit starting pass rusher, I'm taking that over just Wilson every time. Because anyone trading for Wilson is going to need to give him a Top 10 WR contract at the same time, and with today's WR market, that's A LOT of money for a position we could fill on a rookie contract in Burden. It's allocation of resources, not being afraid of spending the cap. If we were a #1 WR away from being legit contenders, like the Bills and Eagles with Diggs and Brown, then it's a different discussion, but we're not that. We have so many holes right now, that filling one of the holes at the cost of being able to fill 2 of them for the same price, just isn't good roster management. Also, all of that is disregarding that we likely wouldn't need to use the 8th on Burden anyways. If he's who we really wanted (and T-Mac was already gone of course), we likely could trade back another 5-7 picks, still get him, but add another solid draft pick as well.
-
I'm actually not so sure he's still a top shelf WR, he's kinda always been a one trick pony with his speed and he turns 31 in a couple of months. His fall off of an elite WR is going to be very quick and sudden as once he loses even a quarter of a step, he will have lost the difference between him being just a good WR and a HOFer. I'm not as convinced that his down year was because of the QB situation as much as the start of him showing his age. I know the Tua injury screwed up the Dolphins season, but he still played in 11 games and it's not like Tyreek was killing it all season except the games he was out. He had three games over 100 yards and only had 5 games all year over 72 yards. For a player like Tyreek who has long made his impact on quick passes and then just out running everyone for big plays, that's a sign to me that he's slowing down, not QB problems.
-
I'm vehemently against Burden at 8, it's way too high for him. But I'd rather take him at 8 than trade for Wilson, 100 times out of 100. It's not that I think Burden is going to be the better player, I actually don't think he'll ever be as good as Wilson is/will be. But if you make that trade you then have to give Wilson a new contract instead of having that position on a rookie deal. Using the pick on Burden and then the extra cap space on a defensive player would be a million times smarter than trading for Wilson and giving him a big deal. It's basically would you rather have Wilson or Burden and a legit pass rusher, seems like an easy decision to me.
-
Would love the player, but there's two big problems with it. The first is that the Jets aren't trading a 24 year old #1 WR for anything less than a 1st rounder (and might need more than just a single 1st anyways), and under no circumstances should we be trading our 1st round picks in any year right now. The second is that when the Jets inevitably move on from Rodgers (and then Adams) this offseason, Wilson isn't going to want out anymore as his problem is with those two more than the organization.
-
Maybe, but they were always going to be an impossible team to accurately mocked right now. They have an absurd amount of cap room, what they need right now will not be what they need come draft day. They can make multiple big splash signings and even make trades for players who need new contracts and their teams don't want to give it to them. OT and WR might be their two biggest needs right now, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to think they could go into the draft needing neither of them. I think a LT will be their top FA priority, also think they're going to make a big offer to Higgins, and I could see them being a team in the running to trade for someone like DK Metcalf as they need a WR like him and they have the cap space to give him a big new contract.
-
Only way I see the Patriots taking a pass rusher is they're able to sign both Higgins and a top LT in FA before the draft. If they don't get both, I can't see how they pass up on the chance to get Maye his LT or WR, both of which they badly need.
-
technically it's either already expired or does so in a day or two, it's just that the Cowboys have exclusive negotiating rights with him until the 14th. So teams need permission to interview him right now, but if McCarthy waits another 8 days, he's free to do whatever he wants without Cowboys permissions.
-
The Bears offensive weapons would be really appealing, but I think when you combine the awfulness of that franchise over the years and how good the rest of that division is looking for at least the next 5 years or so, it just wouldn't be the job I'd take if I was Johnson. Sure the Patriots have to deal with the Bills, but the NFC North has the Lions on the same level and then the Packers and Vikings are certainly better than the Dolphins and Jets right now and over the next few years.
-
I think it's more posturing towards the Bears fan base because he knows Johnson would be a long shot to take the job but it's who the fan base likely wants to pair with Williams. It's his way of making it look like they're turning him down as opposed to him turning them down. I think he'll consider the Jags and Patriots because of their QB situation, but I said it in a thread the other day, I very well could see him stay in Detroit for one last season to try and get hired by whoever has the #1 pick next year so he gets Manning as his QB.

This guy has some serious problems, he needs help or he's going to be the next Delonte West and we're going to see stories of him homeless and living on the streets in a few years.
