Bryce, Ickey, others looking good against jets. Video
strato replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thanks for replying bt what did you think I was asking? I intended to aim that question at the scrimmage because I only saw that one highlight. I gotta say though, you lead with ‘in his defense’ and I didn’t realize I was attacking him. Maybe it was the Peppers thing or the observation that his run blocking disappeared? What I was hoping to communicate was basically I think he can run block like few others, he showed it. You don’t forget how. But he did. Without saying he should bounce back, I was kind of trying to indiocate that I believed something was really wrong when he is not only struggling (a generous characterization) with the pass pro but that dominating run blocking was invisible. And he did not lose that ability. I guess I think it could be like the year that Peppers confounded everyone by playing far below his capabilities and no one really had an good explanation for why, that I can remember,. I don’t get much from those practice videos we have been getting, And I can’t see enough to attempt an intelligent comment., much less make one. I mean I couldn’t mine a good take from what I can see in most of those. So if anyone knows, how is he looking front to back this year? Is the feeling that last year was a tell? Or just a crap year and he is looking (like he is) over it and ready to resume his ascent? -

This is perfect. Bitch about negativity. Serve toxicity as a solution. -
The game changed with the schedule change. Some people make small adjustments to the original routine most everyone used. And maybe it keeps working fine for them. Other people are thinking ‘what if’ and ‘hmm, this changes things ands I see something that might a better way to work it'. It might turn out like New Coke, but it does seem to offer possible advantages to roster building. The biggest negative is they will have people paying big money to watch tryouts. It sucked last week.

Remaining schedule until the start of the season

Hit me if you are down. Marshview.... is that over on Garden City? We have them come and go outside of the 5 or 6 main dogs. Whatever the one over on Garden City is called, it is the best view because you get the Atlantic on one side and the inlet on the other, best sunset view I have seen around here and that is a long long time. My number one, is what I catch. But for eating out: for me it is Mrs Lee’s Inlet Kitchen. My grandfather took all of us there as early as maybe late ‘50s. Definitely ’61, ’62. etc. They have been there a long time. They are closer to the center of old Murrells Inlet south of the Marshwalk, and on the inland side. No water view. ! -
So, just for fun, did you nail Darnold as a prospect, or after he got into the NFL?
-
Thanks, kfd. I do know the downside of athletic talent is too often lots of unused space up in that brain area. That post, those guys, that’s a harsh environment for nuance to thrive. You definitely made your point with those two. I doubt Jamarcus’ switch clicks, like ever. Leaf’s finally might have, long into adulthood and way too late for the NFL. I thought it did once before and then read more stuff... who knows. Bless his heart. You might could have fooled me with Leaf, though, in ‘1998 or whenever, before I had tools to watch video and read and learn, yeah could have fooled me easy. And you still might have fooled me if I had the internet. I still wouldn’t have had access to his shrink. Jamarcus, I don’t think he’d have conned me very easily. He was sort of an open book. I appreciate you man, and I hope one day very soon they find the drug that will cure the Darnold Derangement Syndrome sufferers, who all deserve to live a normal and happy life

Were people scheming Icky? I didn’t look at much but if I were to assume, I’d say not so much. We still have to see about that under real conditions. He did not throw many decent run blocks last year along with the losing focus and getting beat on the regular. And not just beat, abused. And I saw him run blocking like a dozer in 2022. Remember when Pep had that inexplicable really down year? Let’s hope that’s Icky’s thing too. Could black cat be that lucky? -

Yeah. A lot of it looked pretty easy today. I shouldn’t say a lot, just a lot of what I looked at which wasn’t a ton. It is a positive step and nothing wrong with enjoying a bit of hope. At the same time... yeah it was still practice for the QBs it looked like. But much better that than a bad performance. -

That's right! when I read your post the grass popped into my mind’s eye. Got me there. I was being a sheep on that one. Still a grass fan though. Just an ignorant one. -

I think he was built for it. I’m with people on the injuries.I don’t remember this many hamstrings being a thing and there is the groin injury. It begs questioning. And I went on a too cheap to take care of his players rant a couple weeks ago, i agree we need grass. -

Thank you, I saw that I bet, the guy kept saying ‘let’s keep going’? Don’t tease me with Icky. It sounds like he looks like a different player, mechanically. Which he for sure needed to do. If he really has done that to the point it sticks... that’s very good. The couple things I have seen on video this camp did not show me that hitch or skip thing that really is trouble. Let’s say it that way. I need to look a few times but I saw it right away aa year ago. And before the draft. If it is still there I’ll have to look harder to see it. Because I haven’t. I’ll go compare for my own satisfaction, at some point. So that is very very much better. Enjoy, but with the realization that if he reworked his mechanics (Which, THANK YOU), it won’t qualify as 100% repeatable until he gets in a do or die and does not revert to the old comfort zone. So we have that river still to cross. That is the big one, in that particular quest. Peace -

Thank you MA. I do agree with Frank on a lot. That is true. The thing is, we, he and I, will disagree on something else. Drafting, Darnold, come to mind. This whole thing has been Bryce Young centric for a year and a half with a bunch of draft bitching and coaching bitching on the side. And owner but that isn’t a very divisive conversation. There are people here that disagree with me on Young but we are aligned on another player, or plan. I had an negative interaction, where it was a misunderstanding probably, but I read a couple of the dudes posts in other threads and there wasn’t anything there for me to take issue with we were pretty similar in our assessment of stuff. Sigh... We’ll keep it mostly civil -

Sounds like it went about as well as it could have. Would have been fun to see. I don’t get much from the twitter videos. I didn’t see any of last year’s. I had a different idea of what it would be compared to what I saw. I thought they’d like, each run their drills and stuff to get loose, maybe go over what they wanted to focus on, and play. With regular rules except don’t hit the QB. I guess that’s not what it was. This is an important part of building your team though. Gauging yourself against another team. It was way better than if it sucked, but they still aren’t really playing football so it is enjoy but take it with a grain of salt. Story is just starting -

too bad for him. That newborn in season worked out for Bozeman too. -
Would the Carolina Panthers move on from QB Bryce Young?

If you are saying what I think maybe you are saying... The last 5 years has been a yearly I want everything right now fest. Mostly the QB thing driving it. One year after the next, same thing. Yeah -

I went 6 without looking at who and when and where but I‘d rather be one too high than one too low. -
Well now I am the stan. Y’all leave Sam alone! Imma go to reddit and tell everybody how mean y'all are. My thing is, was, some people are slow learners, late bloomers. Takes them a while to put it together. I know about that personally. Some things take me a little longer to grasp, but once it clicks I’ve got. I’m not gonna say anything important to humanity clicked for me, but that’s how it works sometimes. Even today:Wanna ask me if I would Darnold, DJ, and Forman and all those picks, or Bryce Chuba and Theilan? You don’t have to. I am just going to have to see him fail in a good stable situation before I write him off because if he just puts the reads together he will win more than he fugs up. Maybe the same system same OC decent team, 2nd year... I think he still has a chance. As I say, I’m a sucker for the tools. Every tool is NFL quality. 7th year in the league, still only 27. I can’t look away lol. edit: after getting back in the 2022 mode, I thought he was getting close. Close to learning from his mistakes. That seems like a LONG time ago.

Same for Turnstill Stuessie . Calling him Turnstile is so unfair and negative. If I spelled that right, buy me a coffee lol.

Underdog. I can’t get there with Bryce. And that is nothing he has done (well, now that I say that, I remember: he did game the combine to maintain his elite draft position). So maybe I take that back... he is responsible for being where he is. Maybe if he gets benched, cut, his dog dies, he invests all his money with Terence Howard’s tech venture, loses it. Resorts to the UFL or CFL, never quits, and makes his way back to the NFL as a journeyman? Then of course the starter is hurt and Bryce comes in... yeah. Second chances, when you are finally ready for it. I am all the way in on that. I’d be cheering him hard. A typical by the numbers cliche story, still fun. Right now, he is the overdog, apparently too valuable to be exposed to competition. Or too good to beat out I guess? Taking marks off the team for that. Part two, about losing to us being embarrassing? All over that one, today. edit: I am waiting fore someone to hit me because they think that is the ONLY way I would cheer for him. It is the underdog aspect. Rooting for him because he is somehow an underdog. If he starts tearing it up I will be about it. We could have a 3 foot QB and if he did the job I would be all for it. I would have to see that to believe it though.

Okay, the sack total thing that’s been mentioned, can someone weigh in... BY 62 sacks in 2023. He accounted for a few himself (the two finger one, that is on him lol) But the slower pace got him caught several times too. Poor pocket awareness. How many should he own? Because that means he has a goal of cutting down those mistakes. Say it was 10, just for fun. He needs to cut it to 5. That leaves the OL with 52 on them to work on. How many total whiffs were there just inside? A lot. We know Icky, don’t know his numbers. But he was a victim of Bryce dropping too far, and into where Icky was taking the rushers. So all of those were not his fault. But man he was freakimng horrible otherwise, even his run blocking was a shadow of the rookie year. Anyhow, there are 52. What’s the number that qualifies Bryce as being adequately protected relative to the rest of the QBs? It would sure be nice to provide a no excuses environment so we can rightly evaluate him. All I could find was team stats. Need to take 3 off for Dalton’s game. Young was 62 in 16 games, just under 4 per. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2023/#all_passing I figure it is simple enough to find a QB that thrived, with a high number of sacks, and take that as a goal. Lot of top ten Qbs are on the least sacked teams but there are some with a number closer to the middle of the pack. Houston was 21st as a team, 47 sacks. Baltimore was 17th and had 41. Fair enough? What do we think? What is the baseline for sufficient improvement? I am saying at least one sack a game less puts things around 50. Houston had 47. So that’s getting close. If they can shave a few more off, I think we are clear for fair evaluation. And already a better team by a degree at least. There is some play, I think I fudged Dalton’s sacks, and I am horrible with numbers anyway. Someone might refine this into something readable. -

Interesting thought. I think a lot of other things will factor as well. How the coach looks. How Morgan’s additions look. Was Young a contributing factor to someone being less, or more? So much stuff. You sort of have to unravel those threads to understand it. Seems to me. But um, then you have Tepper. But he is on restriction lol so we will have to see if he adheres to his New Yesr’s resolution. New League Year’s Resolution to be more precise. I understand betting on him to break it. -

Do I need to tell that it was a self deprecating joke? dude. My ignorant ass. Joke. You have never heard anybody say that? Sigh... I was not upset with you. Like, at all. There is no need to insult someone for asking you a question. Insult some other snowflake. There is no shortage. The other poo about the trophies wasn’t aimed at you, it was aimed at whoever is slacking on the team. That I was asking about. Because I only could think of one. Why I asked. I also asked because to me, if a person makes a statement about weak players on the offense, they normally name them. Thanks for the info. -
Don't despair. You can still say ‘bad’ things. Bashing the drafted players, still legal. The people that drafted them, the ownership, the analytics guy, the trainer that has everybody tweaking hamstrings... say all the bad poo you want. You will find many of the complainers standing in solidarity with you I’ll bet. We just have a sacred calf.

Please, for my ignorant ass, tell who the deficiencies are, so I can order their participation trophies for the team banquet. Gonna say Corbett maybe? Who gets one?
