I feel like we are backed into having to afford it. When this happened with Icky, it was immediately code red for left tackle. Which did not at all fit with all the careful planning they had surely done to that point in time. Seems to me they are trying to implement their plans without taking the curveball into account. Or are disguising the existence of a plan to account for it. Which they need to do the big reveal on, any time now.

I don’t see ‘that guy’ coming out of these options. It is gonna be a struggle. But knowing we can shuffle them over to the right side is a relief and probably justifies the investment. I hate giving up a chance to take a two contract player at ILB but we are just up against it.

there isn’t a legit backup either. But we’ll be better at TE and nickel.
-
I know but this is a serious deal. The guy from Green Bay is there. Top FA option. He is what I’d call half decent, not trying to say he is anything more. We are sitting in a precarious position, with RT probably being an option as a position for him if or when we can upgrade or if Icky somehow comes back whole. So we could use him there in the future. He is a three or four year starter. The longer this draws out with nothing done, the more I see a costly draft day trade up. Rather not.

Our cupboard is practically bare, and we are depending on a crapshoot from the 19 slot. It isn’t what I’d call a strong position

OT Yosh Nijman announces he’s retiring

Good chance our people had an idea of where he was at, it just wasn’t general knowledge. But I don’t understand their response, or lack of it, to the sudden loss of Icky. -
The lack of left tackle being next to TE and nickel in that first line is just baffling to me.

Miller is a real gamble. People say he is just a ROT. He has played about 100 snaps at LT in school according to someone I watched give a breakdown of these guys. Which most people have missed when talking about him. But that’s it. And thinking he can start at LOT off of that is pushing it. He fits into the hole Moton will leave, but I don’t know how much it helps us this year. And he is the one that keeps being there at 19. We need some kind of plan for sure. -
For some people, he wasn’t McConkey that night in April 2024 when he was selected. The only thing that would stop that is XL pans out while their guy busts. There is a certain amount of Morgan hate that plays into it too. It is a black mark on him for the people that did not want him to be GM. But, it isn’t like XL doesn’t give them ammunition. He has loaded the guns for them, repeatedly. For me I haven’t seen him used very much the way I expected him to be, when they took him. That is hard to resolve in my mind. I know who I want to blame for it but don’t fully understand the why it went that way part.

Somehow we lost our starting LT, our backup LT, our backup to the backup, all gone at once. And we are out there spending huge contracts on edge rushers. -
Comes naturally when the subject of small incremental improvements and poor draft selections intersect.
-
Bro, his better is like Bryce’s better. Very small increments. I think he blind squirreled a couple of highlights. He needs to take a massive step up if he wants to be anything. I’m sorry - I root for him to succeed because I rationalized his selection. Hungry for defense at the time. But he has been completely meh. I guess he gets year three before he gets defined, so here we come. Dan may want to give him every possible chance and putting him beside a quality counterpart would maybe be his last best hope. I would rather him be depth. He would be high grade depth.
-
In the meantime I’ll be equitable; won’t be trusting either faction.
-
Okay. Help me apply that to Metchie being a 4AAA. PS Also, do you reckon Coker would clear waivers today? Metchie might. PSs I’ll stop I just didn’t want the guy. Maybe he can change my mind.
-
So is he the guy or is he the sidekick to the guy? Hell if we can make him a sidekick we are cooking. With the right draft pick that could be a reality by 2O27.
-
that is a subjective thing. We have all seen guys running open that weren’t targeted.
-
I get that. I got turned off to him too. I’ll leave it there. But football skills, and he stayed with one team for a long time which says something for him.
-
How many teams in three years, yet still available? His numbers suck. I am, independently of Horn, calling him the equivalent of a 4AAA baseball prospect. I guess now he is supposed to me my 4AAA prospect. Fine.
-
It depends on how he is used but Bryce had absolutely shown that he will look for his lil safety blankie. That habit needs to be broken not encouraged. ,
-
I am not a fan of his, personally. As a ball player, yep I am a fan. I wanted to draft him day three instead of CMC at 6 or 8 or whatever it was. I stick by that too. His value was high relative to his cost.
-
They are playing with fire sticking to the pre Icky injury strategy. It was a great plan until he went down.
-
I keep saying Mike Tolbert reincarnated would be the guy I want.
-
Yeah but if they wait they give up nothing. A little agent team collusion sets that up. This was done too close to the deadline to cut anyway. I am not blaming us, it is set up for that to happen with this calendar the NFL uses. It happens everywhere and we have taken advantage of it too. I guess it all comes out in the wash. Let’s get one of theirs.
-
They really should do that. We are cap strapped by this but we have to get this situation squared away.
