Panthers reworking Shaq's Deal
LinvilleGorge replied to DJ feed me moore's topic in Carolina Panthers
I've honestly just ignored the DJ talk. Anyone shitting on DJ just isn't very smart. I wish him nothing but the best in Chicago and honestly hate that we had to give him up. -
Panthers reworking Shaq's Deal

I'd put him in the same category as 'spoon. -
I fully expect us to draft either Stroud or Young and honestly I'm fine with either. If Young was the same size as Stroud I don't think there would be any debate. But he's not. If Young was 6'3" 220 I'd be pounding the table for him. I think both guys can be elite NFL QBs, but I do question Young's ability to hold up over time at his size. As such, I do slightly lean toward Stroud but like I said... ultimately I'd be just fine with either and can fully understand a case to be made either way.

Just depends on FA for me. This TE class is STRONG. The strength of the class on paper is edge rushers and TEs. We desperately need TE help. Given that it'd be a shame not to come out of this draft with one of the top TE prospects. But landing a legit starting NT there would certainly not be a bad thing. I like McCall and he was a pleasant surprise last season but I'm not sure if I like him enough to feel comfortably with him penciled in as the starting NT. And then if Brown is your starting NT that means that you're in desperate need of ends.
-
I expect #39 to be a TE or WR, but Mazi Smith or Siaki Ika there wouldn't be shocking. Especially pending what happens in FA.
-
I'm sure he was. Siragusa was a beast of a NT.
-
It's possible. But I think if you already have Shaq at ILB you need some more beef there. With Shaq and Chinn at ILB you'd be lacking some serious beef inside against the run. 3-4 ILBs are expected to take on a lot more blocks than a 4-3 LB typically sees. It's why Ray Lewis who spent considerable times in both schemes greatly preferred playing in a 4-3.
-
I expect the staff has instructed Brown to slim down to the 310-315 pound range if the plan is to play him at DE.
-
Luvu and Burns at OLB. Shaq and Brandon Smith at ILB. Brown and YGM and ends. McCall at NT. Most likely starting spots to upgrade would be end (YGM) and NT IMO.

Panthers reworking Shaq's Deal
LinvilleGorge replied to DJ feed me moore's topic in Carolina Panthers
Who cares where he was drafted? Mayfield was #1 overall. Hell, so was Jamarcus Russell. Teams weren't lining up to throw massive amounts of money at those guys because they were once #1 overall picks. Bradford was mediocre when he was on the field and stayed injured and teams STILL paid him over and over again. It never made any sense and still doesn't. Bradford probably made more in relation to the cap at the time while doing less than possibly anyone in NFL history. -

I hope the details are good. Shaq is a nice player to have but not at elite LB cap hits. -
Who among us actually believes we'll draft Levis
LinvilleGorge replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm intrigued as hell by Richardson's talent but I don't think you trade up to #1 to take anyone other than Young or Stroud. -
I don't think there was ever a QB bust fallback plan. We were getting a QB.

Confused Why Some Seem to Think We Got Fleeced
LinvilleGorge replied to Daddy_Uncle's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think either team got fleeced. I do think a lot of this fanbase significantly underestimates DJ Moore's value and that might lead them to believe that we fleeced the Bears. -
To be fair, Hubert isn't playing "his guys". Styles, Dunn, Washington, Nickel, and Trimble barely get any run at all. Those are Hubert's guys.
-
Next year? Likely very. That fluke championship game run likely bought him significant leeway and he has been recruiting like a beast. I don't know if his '24 recruiting class would save him from another subpar season next year though. He's probably going to get a "make the next year or else" talk soon.
-
Wouldn't be shocking to see him go to Chicago with our #9 overall pick.
-
Yeah, given their need for weapons for Fields and the strength of this edge rusher class it's highly likely that the Bears simply preferred Moore. This is a MUCH better edge rusher draft than WR draft on paper. Get a proven WR via trade, then land a good pass rushing prospect in the draft. There's also the contracts to consider. They're getting a legit starting WR under contract for three more years and we're gonna eat all the guaranteed money vs. with Burns they'd be looking to ink him to a shiny new (massive) deal with huge guarantees. Honestly, it's getting Moore in the deal was the smart play given the cards on the table. I do think that these negotiations likely led to a delay in Burns' extension. As long as he was potentially part of this trade package there was going to be no extension in Carolina. I wouldn't be surprised to see talk of Burns' extension ramp up in the coming days and weeks now that the deal is done.
-
They liked the deal. They're getting an additional future 1st, an additional future 2nd, an additional 2nd this year, and a legit starting WR. They badly needed help for Fields and they're getting it. Now they can focus on more weapons, pass rush, and OL. It's a great edge rusher class and they should still be able to land a top guy at #9 or possibly use one of their 2nds to package together with #9 to hop up a few spots to grab one. I honestly think both teams can feel like they "won" this trade on paper. We'll see who wins on the field.

Confused Why Some Seem to Think We Got Fleeced
LinvilleGorge replied to Daddy_Uncle's topic in Carolina Panthers
Honestly the price doesn't feel THAT extreme. I think both teams can feel pretty good about the deal they made. Now it's time to see how it all plays out. Sometimes the "winners" of a trade end up not winning when it's all said and done. The Chargers got an absolute haul from the Giants for Manning and hit some home runs with those picks but when it was all said and done the Giants won two SBs and the Chargers rarely kade any noise in the postseason. Gimme them rangs. -
I think we're in "we're a QB away" mode. We definitely aren't done making moves at WR for sure. We already could've used an upgrade at outside starting WR. Now we desperately need one and could use two.
-
I'd be a lot more hesitant about him without that game. But his game vs. UGA did for him what Fields' game vs. Clemson did for him, in my eyes at least. When I see a guy go out there and shred the best defense this side of the NFL on the biggest stage this side of the NFL playoffs it means something.
