To play devil's advocate here, our cap situation gets LOT better after this year. We could be significant FA players. And the 1st round isn't the only place to find talent in the draft. Especially when you have good young talent at the premium positions outside of QB. Icky at LT, Horn at CB, Burns at EDGE, Moore at WR, Brown at DT, etc.

Young is just too good at playing QB to last long on the board. Yeah, his small stature definitely raises questions about how long he'll last on the field and watching Tua get ragdolled around last year should still be fresh on everyone's mind. But still, someone is gonna take their chances high on draft night. Hell, it might be us.

They just became a more perfect situation. Now there would be no pressure to play him before he's ready.

This. We signed Teddy to a three year deal and he was cut after one season. The structure will tell you everything. This could very well be a "bridge" deal.

Everyone just assumes we would be drafting Stroud in this hypothetical trade up. I'm not at all certain that's true.

Pick #5 is the floor for what?

I'll be the first to admit that if Drake Maye was available I'd be pounding the table for him. But he's not. As such he's simply not a part of the discussion. A LOT could happen between now and next April. Hell, he could pull an Andrew Luck and opt to go back to school.

It's why I was advocating for just sticking with Rhule through the season. Once we didn't fire him after his second season like we should have, we should've just seen our mistake through so that we could harvest the fruits of our mistake. We definitely have a top 5 pick if Rhule hadn't been fired. Potentially top 3.

Hopefully he goes back to covering the Panthers from the outside. You're always just going to get the company line from folks who actually work directly for the team and honestly understandably so. They're literally getting paid to deliver the company line.

And next year it'll be another guy or two who isn't draft eligible yet who will be better in their eyes than Williams or Maye and we'll need to wait on them. Ad infinitum.

Next year's class is always better for the "just wait" crowd. They probably wanted to pass on Cam in 2011 to wait on Luck in 2012.

If they're the level of prospects people think they are then the only way to land one will be to suck your way into a top two pick because Amy team that does won't be trading out of it.

If you're sitting at #3, that's still two chances for your guy to be drafted. Better be a situation where you'd be thrilled to have any of the top 3 at #3 and I just don't know how good the chances are if that being the case.

Same. I prefer Stroud, Richardson, or Young over Levis but for the first time ever we actually have a coaching staff absolutely chock full of QB coaching experience so if they determine that Levis is the guy then let's go.

I fully expect a decision to be made this off-season that will determine whether there's a new era of Panthers success on the horizon or the period of flailing will be extended a few more years. We shall see. I sure hope we get it right because I for one am really tired and frustrated with the flailing.

Yeah, I'm not trying to act like Derek Carr is a HOFer or anything, but as of right now he stands head and shoulders as the best QB in the NFC South.

Guess who disagrees with you? The Panthers brass. We were interested in Carr for a reason.

We've all been saying that the NFC South team that lands a legit QB is poised to own the division for the foreseeable future. Well, the Saints just did that. Folks, we just got a guarantee that we're gonna do something very bold (and hopefully not very stupid) in the draft.

One of the top TEs. This is the strongest TE class I can remember. Our TE group might be the worst in the league. We gotta come out of the draft with one of them. I'm kind of on them like I am on the top three QBs. I'm not super tied to any one of them in particular. I expect Mayer to go well before #39 so he's out, but I expect a very good one to be there at #39 and I'd probably have the plan to go TE with that pick.

If we're talking about risk, THAT would be the biggest risk a team could take in this draft. You have a young guy who has shown promise despite being surrounded by nothing. If you move him to take another QB you damn well better be right because if you draft a bust and Fields goes on to flourish elsewhere you're now officially the biggest jackass in sports.

If he's a bust you probably get fired in two years. If you fail to land one you probably get fired after this year.

The thing about those generational prospects is there's no trading for them. The team that lands #1 takes the guy.

I'm not saying that. I'm saying we should consider all possibilities. Hell, I've said numerous times that if multiple future 1sts are involved that makes me hesitant as hell. Some of y'all just formulate an opinion, dig in, and start slinging grenades. LOL! I don't think Tepper is on the mood for the "wait another year" plan. What do you do next year if you're in the same position? Comes a point when you run out of years to wait because you've gotten yourself fired for waiting.
