Does being a heisman QB guarantee success in the pros..
JawnyBlaze replied to PanthersGOATFan336's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’s a well known fact that heisman winning QB’s often don’t do well in the nfl. But that’s almost as stupid an argument to use against a prospect as what school they went to. It’s asinine and they have to be judged on their individual potential and evaluation. -

I’ll take a Bolden all day

I haven’t researched him, just watched the OP video. How is this guy not a lock in the first, just injuries? Seems to have elite ball skills and good size/speed.
-
Definitely hope we don’t have to build an all time great defense and most dominant RB in the game in order for him to be successful. I’d rather the offense be able to go through him to be successful.

Honestly, my preferred scenario would be the same idea but for Kincaid or Mayer. But JSN seems highly thought of around here so I figured that would be a better question to ask.
-
Would you guys be ok with this scenario? Variables: JSN falls to the mid 20s, just say 25 for example. Entirely possible, he’s not elite and a team could definitely still have QR at #1 based on athleticism and YAC abilities. Carolina takes Young #1, for the purpose of this hypothetical just to avoid the existing relationship bias. Trade: Carolina trades #39, #93 and next year’s third to move to 25 to take JSN. Value works out, I know most want to trade down rather than up given our remaining draft positions, but there’s something to be said for quality over quantity and we don’t have many holes. Better to get higher quality pieces and build toward longer term success than trying to get to mid tier asap.

I think you’re confusing a lotta posts by few people with a lot of people. There has been plenty of us pro-Stroud crew that is also pro-Young. Just more pro on Stroud because he’s a better passer, not worried about Young’s height at all and only worried about how tiny he is a little. I’ve preferred Stroud from the beginning simply because he’s a better passer and I value that more than scrambling around and off script abilities.

OFFICIAL: Bryce Young cancels remaining team visits

Lol. AR? Sure. It’s the sort of move Belichick has been glorified for, taking a developmental QB in the 2nd. Levis…eh. But I agree, why not. Hedge our bets. -
Hypothetical Question that I'm sure will remain civil

What Houston does has no bearing on my own opinion. They haven’t exactly proven themselves as shining paragons of good decision making. -

Some positions they are perfectly fine at evaluating. QB is not one of those positions. -

At one point it was a great QB class. Then as draft season arrived it was downgraded to just better than last year but still bad. Happens almost every year, will happen next year with Williams and Maye. -

Yea, no way he’s getting past the Texans if we don’t take him. -

I said I don’t like QBR at all, but better than PFF’s judgement on this topic, because QBR doesn’t require my faith in random people’s judgement. I don’t like blind faith in stats or other people’s opinions at all. I make my own judgements for my opinion. If I have interest in a player, I do my own research like I have with the top five QBs this year. With regard to this year’s WR, which I also have some interest in, I haven’t done much of my own research so I don’t offer my opinions strongly for or against any of the prospects (as an example on the flip side of the coin). -

I’m saying I as a fan (same as them, as nothing more than fans, not being in football themselves or anything) don’t try to place a number grade or pass my opinion off to the masses as a definitive evaluation. I have my opinions and ideas, but I wouldn’t expect you or anyone else to take my word for it. I’d hope you’d do your own research. -

I have an automatic reaction that goes back years to anyone posting PFF grades as if PFF is in the huddle and meeting rooms with the teams and knows what they’re supposed to be doing. The objective stuff they put out, or less subjective (like catchable balls), doesn’t get as much of a reaction out of me. But the stuff that involves decision making and qualities like that, that PFF has no foundation for making a judgement on, I automatically respond with “PFF is trash” heh -

Ok, lemme rephrase, accepting their “grades” as definitive evaluations is pure trash. They try to push their grades while not knowing the context of what they’re evaluating in many cases. Can they accurately assess the difference between a drop and an uncatchable ball? Probably more often than not. Can they accurately assess what a QB’s reads were within the scope of the play that was called and whether they made the right decision? No chance. Can they accurately assess if an OL got overpowered by a DL? Sure. Can they assess whether the OL missed his assignment or whether it was his neighbor’s responsibility? Not often. -

To what extent are all franchises using PFF? I sure hope the Panthers aren’t putting a lot weight on their “grades”. Like I said, there are uses for PFF, even if just as part of a pool of data. Taking their opinions as gospel ain’t one of them. -

I don’t like QBR either but it’s better than PFF, PFF is straight trash. Only good for looking up concrete stats that aren’t subject to their “interpretation”. -
