Colts taking Will Levis in the 2nd after drafting AR15?
MHS831 replied to TheWiz's topic in Carolina Panthers
Irsay buys a puppy for his daughter and brings it home to her. She is happy and elated--visions of many years of happiness and love. The next night, he brings home another puppy for her. She is confused. He explains, "We are going to let them fight to the death, and you get to keep the winner!" -
I do see Brady Christensen as the weak link on the OL---but if he were a backup Swing T, he would be a strength. However, do not rule out the G from Alabama in the third or early fourth--Ekiyor-he is only 6'2"---was that by design?
-
It is really hard to gauge this because we don't even know precisely what the needs are. Depending on scheme, every team needs players with various skill sets. I am wondering, "Do we want a 245 lb edge or a 270 lb edge? What are we looking for in a CB or do we feel set there? Do we really want a G or a T? What about NT? DE? Since we have not seen the system in action, we are just trying to figure what this coach did last year and what that coach did etc.

Is it possible that Hooker and Levis go in the top 8 picks? I think so. (Rams, Raiders or trade up like Minnesota, Washington, New England)
-
I can't get Washington out of my head--- I think Fittsandgiggles will trade back if he can--unless some first round graded player drops.
-
I really like the OT from Syracuse if we drop some (Bergeron). IF we added a T, we could then deal Moton (next year, when he gets expensive) and we could go with McCray, BC, Mays at G until Corbett returns. If we draft a G, I think it is to start at LG and BC becomes the swing T, Mays and McCray the backup G/C players. If you look at numbers, we have about 8 OL who are good enough to make the 53. We need 9-10, so we have to do something.

OK, OK, I will tell you all what I expect to happen: The Panthers will pick at 39 and combine 93 and 114 to move up to about 80. The first pick? An edge The second pick? An OL (probably a Guard) I think they believe that if they can get a QB and 2 starting-caliber players they will be elated. I agree. However, BPA at 39 will be in play--we could go TE, CB, or OL with that pick.

Montana was over 5 years older than Young--he was past his prime--young was entering his. So similar. Irsay is a coke-fried, spoiled, jerk, and were it not for his father's $$, he would be living under an overpass smelling like Thunderbird and urine. -
We also had Washington (TE) in late. That would be an interesting pick.
-
I thought he might....He is a bit raw but has some incredible skills.

I wanted to comment on certain comments see bold text in your post above:
-
And he would have to outperform all of the picks combined--wow. The Cards GM needs a raise.
-
I don't think White is a good fit here-I see him more of a 4-3 DE--but there is a gray area there.
-
Agree 100% but if you have 3 players you'd take and can move back 2-3 spots, it might be worth it
-
some will fall--and that will make it interesting.
-
Where was the trade? -no trades leading up to the Panther pick--did you really need me to explain that, or were you just trolling? this takes you to the options the panthers will have. No need to be a dick.
-
We shall see. SO much depends on the Draft sites you read and trust--I hear people pimping players that I have 4-5th round on--it is based on what we read, and crackheads can write this stuff-we prove that every day

I had the same thought! After posting this, I thought, that is exactly what they should do.

32. Pittsburgh: Joey Porter, CB Penn State: Fills a need and makes too much sense. 33. Arizona: Keion White, DE, Georgia Tech: White fills the biggest need at any position in the NFL with a 4-3 DE pass rusher 34. Detroit: Michael Mayer, TE Notre Dame: TE is a need, and Mayer is too good to pass up. 35. Indianapolis: Brian Branch, CB/S Alabama: Colts have need at both CB and S--Branch is both. Could go OG here. 36. Los Angeles Rams: Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee: Stafford needs a WR and they are not deep in this draft Mingo a possibility here as well. 37. Seattle: BJ Ojulari, OLB/Edge, LSU: Seattle switched to a 3-4 base last year, and need an edge. 38. Las Vegas: Will Levis, QB, Kentucky: They could go CB or G here, but Levis is a tremendous value and a long term need. Raiders love players with a chip on their shoulders. 39. Carolina: Trade back. You have the top 2 Guards on the board (Torrence and Aliva), OLB/Edges Hall and Sanders, TE Washington, CBs Brents, Ringo, and Turner, and an OT I really like, Bergeron from Syracuse. UNC WR Downs is sitting right there--waiting to drive down 85 to play for the Black and Blue. That is 10 players, so I would move back to 48-50 if I could, then move up to about 60 to get a second day-2 player. But that is just me--I live on the edge.

DAY 2: Best of the Rest Big Board by Positions of Interest

I did this to give us a page to reference tonight when we are trying to keep up with the picks. -

MHS831 replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
It looks as if we can get a CB in the third--but if we want an edge, we gotta hunt in round 2. I want Ojulari, but I see us with Hall after a trade back. -

I agree--Porter and Branch are first round talents--I even see a possible trade up for either. Ojulari makes the most sense -
Thought I would assemble a list of players the Panthers are likely to target on Day 2 of the NFL Draft. Some will argue that some DEs are not on this list--but I think DE means "defensive tackle" and OLB is an edge. So if the player is 285 lbs and likely is suited to be a 4-3 DE, I did not include him, even though he is called an "edge." That means the pickings are going to be slim in rounds 2-3 for a 3-4 Edge. Drew Sanders is a LB who can play ILB and OLB with equal ease. I think he would fill our OLB / edge needs, so I include him as an OLB/pass rusher. Tight Ends · Michael Mayer, Notre Dame (2) · Darnell Washington, Georgia (2) · Luke Musgrave, Oregon State (3) · Sam LaPorta, Iowa (3) · Tucker Kraft, South Dakota State (3) · Luke Schoonmaker, Michigan (3) Wide Receivers · Jalin Hyatt, Tennessee (2) · Josh Down, North Carolina (2) · Jonathan Mingo, Mississippi (2) · Marvin Mimms, Oklahoma (3) · Cedric Tillman, Tennessee (3) (Scott-Cincinnati, Dell-Houston, and Jones-Purdue might also slip into round 3) Offensive Linemen · O’Cyrus Torrence (G) Florida (2) · Steve Avila (G) TCU (2) · Matthew Bergeron (T) Syracuse (2) · Cody Mauch, (G) North Dakota State (2) · Dawand Jones, (T) Ohio State (2-3) · Chandler Zavala (G) NC State (3) Cornerbacks · Joey Porter, Penn State (2) · Brian Branch (S/CB), Alabama (2) · Julius Brents, Kansas (2) · Kelee Ringo, Georgia (2) · DJ Turner, Michigan (2) · Tyrique Stevenson, Miami (3) · Cam Smith, South Carolina (3) · Darius Rush, South Carolina (3) · Riley Moss, Iowa (3) · Clark Phillips, Utah (3) Edge (Here, I am looking at the mobile, pass-rushing specialists, not 4-3 DE’s) · BJ Ojulari, LSU (2) · Derek Hall, Auburn (2) · Drew Sanders, Arkansas (2)* · Isaiah Foskey, Notre Dame (2-3) · Byron Young, Tennessee (3) · YaYa Diabi, Louisville (3)
