  1. I think Moton is a safe bet for a front-loaded, mostly guaranteed 4-year extension beginning in 2025. They have to get him down in the $25m range, and I think he would accept the security and longer term--who knows? Agents gotta agent, but if you compare his stats to peers, he is not pro bowling-he is an above average RT.
  2. So you get better right before the season--no OTAs, no camp, no preseason. Didn't Brett Favre do that with the Jets and Vikings? Nice to have you back.
  3. I am really interested to see how they use XL. I am nervous about this pick....We still will eventually get RB Brooks, OLB Wonnum, and CB Jackson back one day. I also think that TE Sanders will be the starting TE very soon (of course he will until Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble return....I guessed that BC would be backing up Moton on the right side, however, it looks as though he is the backup center. Curious, because Raym looked pretty good in preseason. I have a feeling that situation is fluid....I think Horn and the Dane and Mike Jackson are safe as outside CBs. Hill and Smith-Wade (I am not sure where Smith-Wade will end up) are manning the nickel position. I think they need a fourth outside CB and a big nickel, so at least two of the the three acquired CBs have a shot at a long-term roster spot. The bottom of the roster is going to be fluid, and week 4 we will see a lot of movement. In my view, the bottom of the roster is how you start the turnaround process. We are playing for 2025, in my mind. I see 5 wins if this is what we are going with--6 or 7 if XL catches on.
  4. I think they like to have cap room to sign free agents if there are injuries--I dunno. I know we were 4 million over--I understand Moton because he is steady and can play 4 more years pretty easily, but TUTTLE? he did not have a good season last year, but we can hope for a better performance now, I suppose. He is buddies with Brown, so maybe that will rub off.
  5. I doubt he gets $35m and walks. We will spread that $35m over the next 3-4 seasons, keeping his salary around $30m, is my guess.
  6. My guess would be BC--but when you are trying to protect the QB at all costs to see what you have, you keep Moton.
  7. I see Moton being an effective RT for another 3-4 years. If you extend him for 2 years, you should be able to cover costs. He is only guaranteed (through 2025) what he has already been paid in signing bonus. So in terms of new guaranteed money with the Panthers, that number is only $3m starting this year, $0 next year. I think we could drop his salary to $22m and guarantee most of it through 2027, when he is 33-34 years old. That would increase his guaranteed money from $3m to about $40m, add 2 years, and save the Panthers about $8m per for 2024 and 2025. I normally do not get into the tall grass with money etc. because I do not know enough about it, but this seems like an offer a 30-year might consider, especially if he wants more security and to retire a Panther. Why Moton? He is pretty dependable and you can count on his professionalism and consistency--like Ryan Kalil when we kept reworking his deal
  8. Agreed and that was my point-I was saying that we are not adding an Edge via trade this season-that DE from Charlotte who plays for Tennessee--Pearce.
  9. why are they predicting 16 game seasons? (PFF guy in video says 6-11, the TB guy picked 3-13--duh.)
  10. I think we should sit tight--this is year one of a two year rebuild, imo. Barno and Wonnum are returning, and DJ and Leota have shown improvement. DE is a tough position to learn in the NFL, and our history with some of our best Edge players tells us that year 3 is often when the light comes on--Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy, Mike Rucker. MIke Rucker (second round pick) had 5.5 sacks during his first 2 years. Year 3? 9 sacks. Year 4? 12.5 sacks. Year 5? 10 sacks. Charles Johnson (third round pick) only appeared in 3 games his first season, so we are not counting it. His first two full seasons were not bad, but not good. CJ had 10 sacks in his first two full seasons. After that he had 52.5 sacks over the next 5 seasons. ( 11.5, 9, 12.5, 11, and 8.5.) Greg Hardy (6th round pick) had 3 sacks as a rookie and 4 sacks as a sophomore. Year 3? 11 sacks. Year 4? 15 sacks. Amare Barno is entering year 3. So far, he has 2 sacks over 24 games. He needs to step up--I hate that he was injured because he has tools. DJ Wonnum has 2, 8-sack seasons (4 total--8 sacks in 2023). Jadeveon Clowney did about as well in Baltimore (9.5 sacks in 2023). DJ Johnson and Eku Leota are developmental players in year 2. Neither has sacked the QB. We simply need a good year out of Clowney, Wonnum needs to have another 8-sack season and either DJ Johnson or Amare Barno needs to step up in a big way. Just one of them--and both are elite athletes with good size. Not ideal, I get it. But Edge rushers are difficult to find, and we are not getting one in a trade. I did not mention the Sheriff. Stranger things...
  11. Help me out here--So Tremble thinks he is good to go today, but maybe they have decided to give him a week. We have Sanders and Matthews who can play this weekend, and we sign a guy from another PS (Swinson) and put him on the active roster. Tremble returns week 2 and Thomas returns week 4. We really don't need the new TE after week 1. This new TE does not know the offense--how effective can he be week 1? Furthermore, we have Phillipe Franks on the PS and he probably knows the offense. What do we do with Swinson after week 1?
  12. I don't know where they are getting the cap room, but I have not looked at it. I am guessing Moton is getting restructured?
  13. Shockingly, he does NOT have an endorsement for AXE Hair gel yet. Apparently, they want to target middle school students, so he is a few years too old for that demographic. It is funny---the Panthers post this announcement and he offers no insights into the move, the cap, etc. He simple Googles "Panther Roster". No indication of who they might bring up---nothing. Cutting edge journalism.
  14. Why don't the reporters who cover the panthers ever break news? All they do is read the roster to us after something happens. THANKS JOE!!! How about telling us when the first game is?
  15. Let's talk 2025 NFL Draft.... Seriously, did not take a lot of extensive research to come up with this epiphany.
  16. I told my wife that football season begins Sunday at 1 pm, so "if you have anything to say to me, you might want to get it in before then. I will next be available sometime around Valentine's Day, because I am a romantic kind of guy."
  17. I am going to predict that we are able to generate more pressure on Carr than probably anticipated. I expect our DTs/DEs to get some pressure up the middle. So it was written on this day.
  18. I think the Panthers have the element of surprise and game planning against us will be tough. Quick passes to alleviate their edge pressure and I think we should run the ball a lot. If we start that pre-snap penalty crap, game over. I see Corbett with at least one bad snap, and I see the Panther pressure coming from inside--Brown and maybe Shaq. I would not know how to prepare for Carolina--so maybe we get a game 1 sneak attack.
  19. Johnson has the skills to be a productive edge rusher, and Leota (when I watch) is excellent at holding the edge---Johnson is not bad at it--I just have not seen enough from either to know for sure.
