  1. That's a good point. The Panthers have shot themselves in the foot by publicly saying they are desperate to upgrade the QB position. Which was a very stupid thing to do. And Tepper made a worse mistake by letting it be known he is all in on Watson and wants him no matter what it takes. The Panthers have zero leverage in any trade talks. If I was the Texans' GM, my starting asking price would be three first round picks, two seconds including this years' pick, this year's third rounder, Burns, Brown, and Chinn. If I was feeling nice, I would let the Panthers negotiate to keep the third rounder and maybe next year's second. I would fleece or gut them for everything since they made stupid mistakes.
  2. The difference between them is that Watson is not an old white billionaire like Craft is.
  3. Trading for Watson. They're just making sure the money matches.
  4. Panther fans when they see the team signed free agents the first day: Panther fans when they see who was signed: The Panthers front office's answer:
  5. I've never read any of the Warhammer books. Are they any good? Not fantasy or scifi, but Barry Eisler's books are great.
  6. Or trade for Watson, who is not available for trade.
  7. I know there used to be a fantasy book recommendations thread, but it is archived now. If anyone is looking for a good scifi series, Nathan Lowell's Tales from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper series is worth a read. No galaxy or world saving, but a good series none the less. Here is a link for the first three in an omnibus. Nevernight is a good fantasy read about assassins. Skyward and its sequel, Starsight by Brandon Sanderson are a pretty good coming of age scifi series.
  8. If they can void the contract, does it count against the cap? Because if it doesn't count against the cap it is smart. If it counts against the cap, then it is just doing dumb Hurney things and kicking the can down the road again.
  9. Sewell because there is no point in having an elite QB and defense if the O-line can't protect the QB long enough to make a pass.
  10. Yep. They need to sit where they are and let the chips fall where they may. Take the best best tackle or BPA in general and keep building the team. Or trade back and take BPA. The Panthers are more than a year or two from competing for a championship even if a different QB would help them squeak into the playoffs.
  11. You're right about Watson being talented and giving up picks and players will leave the team spinning its wheels. Washington traded three firsts years ago to take a QB. Houston is going to want at least that in picks and then whatever else they can get.
  12. Watson to Atlanta does make some sense. Houston would probably end up with Ryan as a bridge or stopgap, a top five pick this year to take a young QB or other top talent, other picks and players as well. Watson would then go home to Georgia and be the hometown hero. Atlanta gets to reload with a top young QB on a long term contract and sell a ton of jerseys and other merch. If that was to happen, this place would have a meltdown of epic proportions.
  13. If the guy is sitting a year to learn, he is wasting a year of that valuable five year rookie contract since he isn't out there playing. The only way I would trade up in the draft is if I'm 100% sold on the guy being a day one starter. Otherwise, I trade back or take whoever is available where I'm at, especially in a draft like this that is supposed to be deep for the Oline.
  14. Are you sure this isn't a smoke screen? It is that time of year where in the past everybody said never to trust what teams say. If it's not a smoke screen, it leads me to believe Tepper and the FO are not as smart as they want people to think.
  15. Why? You're giving up draft capital and having to pay him more when he'll just sit at least a year. That makes no sense when you can keep your picks, not pay him more to sit, and roll with one of the three on the roster while improving other positions of the team. Draft a QB next year. They did say this was a five year rebuild. There is no need to rush and draft a QB when the team isn't ready to compete for a title yet.
  16. I don't like that Monk's growing up just happened to have occurred in a contract year. Monk reminds me a little of Tyrus Thomas in the contract year play. I don't think the Hornets will make the same mistake twice because Monk will probably be looking to leave the team anyway, if for no other reason, than a chance to start. He won't get that as a Hornet as long as Terry, Devonte, and Melo are playing in Charlotte.
  17. Keep him. Odds are Monk will be playing elsewhere next season since JB and Cliff had jerked him around so much before this season. Plus, JB seems to love the guy, which means Graham will be getting a lot of minutes once he returns from injury.
