  1. Jake got the team a lot closer to winning a SB than Cam did. Jake also had just as many winning seasons as Cam did, so yeah, he was a franchise QB.
  2. With that cap hit and as bad as Darnold is, would you do that if you were the Texans? Especially with how desperate the Panthers are?
  3. Why? Where is the incentive for the Texans to do that? The NFL is not like the NBA where you have to match salaries.
  4. Just how many games did Watson play last season to prove he's a top 5 QB? Time doesn't hold still just because he didn't play and you want to claim he's top 5 based off 2-3 years ago.
  5. Watson is not a top 5 QB at this time. Rogers Allen Herbert Mahomes Burrow Stafford The above are all better than he is currently. Heck, you could argue that Murray, Prescott, Wilson, and Carr are also better than Watson too.
  6. That's not a true statement at all. Cam was here for 9 seasons the first time and Jake was the franchise QB when he was here.
  7. Not if those young players don't fit your scheme or are on the last year of their rookie deals. Having a promising young prospect that you think fits your needs for 3-5 years on a cheap deal beats having a guy that is basically a one year rental.
  8. The Hornets weren't playing that well in the 1st quarter, but have turned it on since then. Devontae Graham is having a great game too. He must really want to beat his old team.
  9. The good teams have more than just a franchise QB. They have good management, coaches, and scouts. They make smart trades and signings, treat the players well, and aren't afraid to cut or trade a guy that is getting long in the tooth. In short, successful teams are well run teams from the top down. Giving up multiple picks can be smart when the team is entering their window to compete for a title. See the Chiefs and Rams for example. Giving up multiple picks out of desperation is stupid. See Washington with the RG3 trade or the Saints with the Ricky Williams trade for example. Giving up multiple picks and young starting players is beyond stupid, especially when you won't have the cap space to sign quality free agents to replace those young starters. Bypassing better quality prospects for more later round picks as the Panthers did this past draft isn't the way to replace those starting caliber players either. I get wanting to have a young, exciting, and dynamic young QB to cheer for, but selling the farm to acquire one is not the way when the team is in bad shape. I'm against selling out for this trade just as I was for trading up in the draft, the team just isn't ready to compete.
  10. No they weren't. Only 3 winning seasons out of those years. One SB appearance doesn't erase all the losing.
  11. Football teams are their records. The Panthers just weren't that successful with theirs as evidenced by their record. Again, 3 winning seasons out of 9 not counting last year. That's 33%, which isn't good at all. I've also never said that a QB isn't the most important player on an NFL team. They just can't get it done on their own. They need linemen to protect them, a running back to take some pressure off them throwing every down, TEs and WRs to catch their passes, and a defense that can stop the other team from scoring as much. It's almost as if football is a team sport. The best thing the Panthers could do is go O-line in the draft, take their lumps with Darnold and PJ at QB this season, and go after a QB next year.
  12. Success with Cam? One Superbowl appearance, one NFC title, three division titles, and only three winning seasons. And one of those division titles was with a losing record when the whole NFCS sucked balls. Carolina just happened to be the least ugly pig that year. Sorry. If that is all Watson can do since the team will be worse than it was with Cam(no high picks, missing young players, no cap room), he can go elsewhere.
  13. Not necessarily. Different people have different skills. Tom Brady for example was never the runner that Cam was while Cam has never been the passer that Brady was, but both were franchise QBs.
  14. Welp, the Panther just stuck out. They don't have a good O-line, a good coach, or a good defense.
  15. What if those young players don't match the Texans' system or what they want, so they prefer draft picks?
  16. No, a franchise QB does not cure all ills. Did having Cam fix the bad receivers and O-line he had for most of his time in Charlotte? Did having Cam give the team back to back winning seasons? Did having Cam give the Panthers more winning seasons than losing ones with him? Did having Cam make Ron and Co better coaches? Did having Cam make Hurney and Gettlemen better GMs? Did having Cam win a Superbowl? The answer to all of those questions is no. We watched the movie where having a franchise QB and never puts a good team around him which results in being mediocre. I'm not interested in the remake where the bad team sells the farm for said QB and is unable to put a winning team around him because they don't have high draft picks to replace the young talent they gave away along with the picks themselves. Oh, nor do they have the cap space to afford good talent because of the QBs high cap hit along with the prior mistakes' cap hits.
  17. I've always felt the Falcons would be a player if Watson is cleared. He's the home state kid after all. Wouldn't surprise me if the Saints and Bucs don't become players if Watson is cleared either.
  18. But the Watson fanboys have been assuring us that it's all a scam, a trap, a cash grab, and that it's impossible that a handsome man like him needs to force themselves on "instagram models."
  19. I might have confused you with someone else. If you don't want Watson at all costs, I apologize.
  20. They should, but that won't happen. The casual audience the NFL chases wants passing and high scores, not running or defense.
  21. Yeah, they both suck. But even just comparing their first two years, Ron has been the better coach. He actually won another game his sophomore year while Rhule got worse and lost an extra game.
  22. And you're wanting to repeat that experiment by trading the farm for Watson. The Broncos set a high market for QBs with the Wilson trade. The Texans will demand more for Watson, if he's eligible to play, since he's in his prime and several years younger than Wilson.
