  1. If he was good enough to win more games with a bad Jets team, putting a better team around him should mean they don't need to draft a rookie QB highly this year since he should be a lot better with a better team and coaching.
  2. How does Darnold mean you can bring the rookie in slowly or when ready? If Darnold sucks, like most people here seem to think, the desperation to play the rookie as soon as possible will be high. I agree that if Darnold plays well, it'll be a good thing.
  3. The flipside of my statement is that if Darnold doesn't play well and with the way this regime has done QBs, he won't be here long enough to compete with anyone. The only way Darnold has competition this year is if they draft a QB high. Otherwise, the job is Darnold's unless injured.
  4. If they draft a QB at 8, they won't kick the tires on Darnold for long, if at all. The pressure to start the rookie will be too high.
  5. If Darnold plays and proves to be a good starter or franchise guy, any future QB drafted will not be competition just like Grier was never competition for Cam, or Rodgers competition for Favre.
  6. I don't think that means Darnold had a cloud over that way. I think they meant that Teddy was the starter and since he is gone, Darnold is the starter now. Could be wrong though.
  7. I've never said that they are all in on Darnold. I have said they should give him a fair shake with a better team around him and hopefully better coaching than he has had. Unless they draft a QB tomorrow night, they could be planning on giving Darnold that fair shake. We'll have to wait and see. Either way, I'll be glad when the draft is over.
  8. Who is he going to compete with if they don't draft a QB? Walker? Grier? A mid round developmental QB? Any of those aren't competition.
  9. Tepper also hung on to Marty and Ron a lot longer than he should have too. Especially Marty.
  10. I've stated before the team could think Darnold is their guy. They might be right, they might be wrong. Only way to find out is to let him play.
  11. I get what you're saying, but Darnold is a guy they are wanting to rehab. If not and it was an attempt at a smokescreen, it was stupid to trade for him. Other teams have seen how bad Darnold was in NY. Their FOs should be aware the Panthers could still take a QB or at least planned for that if one slips to 8 in the draft. Adding a top ten QB might add extra pressure to Darnold. It'll definitely add pressure to the staff to start the rookie instead of letting him sit. The fans will yell for the rookie to start day 1. When Darnold throws a pick, if he plays, fans will yell louder for the rookie to start. When the Panthers lose a game, the fans will yell even louder for the rookie. The media will also question when the rookie will play, even if it isn't the local media. I hate playing what if, but since you started it...What if the rookie QB sucks. What if the rookie tackle, CB, or whatever the Panthers pass on wins rookie of the year? That'll sting a lot too.
  12. Fair enough. A lot of folks here took it as the truth and insisted it was happening.
  13. Yep. The current FO has some work to do before they look competent when it comes to QBs.
  14. I'd take the 90% LT so he could protect the 30% QB and whoever takes over for the QB if he fails.
  15. Bringing in a guy when they knew Cam would not be the same would have made sense. Too bad they didn't. Brady was a late round flyer. Favre was an established vet starting the slide to the downside of his career with a good team around him. The Packers were in a position to be able to take a young QB and let him sit and learn. Same for Montana and Young. The Colts did the same with Manning and Luck. The current Panthers are not even in the ballpark that those teams were. Once again, Cam Newton franchise QB equaled 3 winning seasons with the current rules. It takes a lot more than a QB to be a perennial contender. A young QB needs weapons, coaching, and protection. The Panthers failed to give Cam that repeatedly. The current contending and superbowl teams had good teams built and then got their QB. The Panthers should follow the examples of those winning teams.
  16. I'm surprised a team didn't take that page from the NBA and make the Panthers pay to trade him. If I was a GM I would. Otherwise I wait for the Panthers to cut Teddy and then sign him later if I wanted him as a backup.
  17. Walker is still there I think. Besides, even if they don't go QB in the first, they'll probably take one to develop in the mid rounds or maybe even Mond or Trask in the second.
  18. Has to be Marty. He dragged the team down for a lot longer...twice!
  19. I've watched that movie several times last year just because it was playing.
  20. Not to the Panthers. The FO made that more than clear with how they have handled him this offseason.
  21. I didn't say new coaching, I said what should be better coaching. Even if the Panthers' coaches are bad, they shouldn't be worse than what Darnold had last year. Because if they are, the team has much bigger issues than picking a QB or not. As I stated in another reply, playing if never works well. I think the best option this year is to surround Darnold with talent and see what happens. If he sucks, he sucks and the team can pick another QB next year.
  22. By going QB, the Panthers could be missing out on a possible franchise tackle, WR, or whatever else. Playing what if never works well. Lets just hope they make the best decision for the team no matter what it is.
