  1. It seems that with all these lateral moves that Carolina is a desirable place to be. Reich has made a huge difference already, bringing in a diverse group of experienced coaches. Tepper must be spreading the bucks as well since it isn't regulated by the cap.
  2. For wentz in 2016? It was 2 firsts not 3 and honestly he never lived up to expectations. Still another cautionary tail.
  3. When has giving up 3 firsts plus to move up in the draft worked out? Just because someone was stupid enough to do it once doesn't mean that became the norm or will happen again. Lance is the cautionary tale to convince us it wasn't worth it...
  4. What we learned was this trade was a bust and not good for San Fran. It is a warning to teams it was too much for an unproven rookie. May not happen again...
  5. Carr is a great option if we can convince him to take an incentive based contract. I just don't know if he is worth a fully guaranteed contract in the 30,000 or above range. It isn't he can't be really good but how good at what price versus other options. Seems the trend is fully guaranteed contracts that often don't work out that well.
  6. About 1/4 to 1/3 of the time teams line up under center. And it isn't usually a qb sneak but it is a running play. The question actually would be whether you would pass when under center to confuse the defense or mostly run the ball like most teams under center which telegraphs it is a run to the defense. I suspect he would only pass out of the shotgun like he has at Alabama.
  7. I doubt anyone thinks he did well enough to be the unquestioned starter. But he did do enough to be on the roster if the money can be worked out. Should be interesting to get Reich's opinion on that.
  8. Won't be happening and I am not sure how choked up I am about it.
  9. I was rooting for Philly hard but honestly I didn't think much of the playcalling especially the passing. It was Brown making crazy catches on contested balls and the rest was dink and dunk. They ran the ball for much of their yards. I saw few if any second half adjustments. If it weren't for Hurts carrying the team on his back they wouldn't have been in it at all. Not sure how much Philly success was scheme or individual effort. I am tending toward the latter.
  10. To me the best way to do it is have a relatively low base pay with lots of incentives if certain goals are achieved. That is fair to both sides. If you play great you get a lot more but if you don't we cut our losses. Guaranteed money which is all they want, actually takes away the incentive to over perform.
  11. I am looking for us to develop a team that is a playoff contender. When you get in the playoffs anything can happen with a little luck and playing your best ball at the end of the season.
  12. No you don't have to try to distort what I said to the extreme. I said he played well enough to be a backup somewhere and given the context he did a good job managing the game coming off IR. And again we aren't talking Matt Rhule or Darnold of 2021. There are plenty of grounding.exercises to stop a flashback. Stay in the present to avoid the pain or constantly talking about the past. Seriously....
  13. So I read speculation that he might be worth 5-8 million as a back up on a 1 year deal. What were you thinking is a premium? He was on IR for most of the season so he isn't exactly in a great negotiating position if he wants to stay here.
  14. Says the Matt Rhule PTSD survivor with Darnoldnoia - the condition where survivors report flashbacks to 2021 which causes temporary blindness and tunnel vision and tendencies to obsess and engage in repetitive compulsive rants.
  15. Totally agree so just stop doing what you accuse everyone else of doing. The emperor has no clothes.
  16. What vet qb will be better than Darnold and cheaper who wants to come here? Just asking for a friend......
  17. No need trying to change the mind of someone who has already decided the answer and tries to manipulate the facts to fit their agenda. Kinda of hope he stays if nothing else but to liven up these threads.
  18. And you are mixing apples and oranges. In 2021 he had a different O line, different coach and different OC than in 2022 with very different results. The big improvement in his play with a decent line and a real NFL coordinator is the only reason I think he could fit into our future plans. No one wants the Darnold of 2021 and you have to get over the bad memories to deal with the present. And it isn't just me. Most folks who saw him play in 2022 talked about his improved mechanics, improved decision making. His accuracy was spot on for the most part. Seems there are more haters here than most anywhere else. He will be a backup somewhere next year. Don't know where though.
  19. You are wrong on several counts. Darnold does what his OC calls. He does have some options based on defensive looks but it is limited. Second why would you pass when you are running the ball down their throats? Was that because Sam couldn't pass or Wilkes wanted to run the ball feeling the o line does a better job run blocking versus pass blocking. Look at the games we couldn't run like Pittsburgh. He was 14 for 23 for 225 and 9.8 yards per attempt and a passer rating of 108. How about the buccaneers where we ran for around 100 yards. Yeah he was 23 for 37 for 341 yards and 9.2 yards per attempt. Yes his completion rate was 58.6% but the biggest stat is that he threw for over 8 yards a reception. 40% of his passes were for 1st downs and he threw 17 passes over 20 yards which would translate to almost 50 in a whole season. He played much better than he has at any time in his career with a qb rating almost 20 points higher than his career average. He may have been bad for the Jets and in 2021 but he was significantly better in 2022 with a real OC who obviously was let go so we can expect better in the future under Reich. No Reich may prefer someone else but Darnold played his best ball by far in 2022 with competent players and coaches for the first time. Again I am not clamoring for him but fair is fair and your evaluation reflects your own bias not reality.
  20. You don't know what his potential is and your take Darnold was a terrible qb is overblown and refuted by facts. I am interested in what Reich thinks though. He might not want Sam because he isn't his style of QB or he may have a personal relationship with one he likes better. That is his call. But he will be on someone's roster this Fall and honestly I wouldnt be surprised if PJ is as well.
  21. Let's see what the new regime thinks first before deciding what they should do.
  22. Sam played the hand he was dealt and did what he could to help the team. He helped us to 4 wins in 6 games and managed the game which is his job. At the end of the game it is about wins and losses and scoring points and he did that pretty well.
  23. It is because we don't have PTSD that we can evaluate Sam objectively. The folks with PTSD don't want him based on 2021 which carried over to negative evaluations this year that were not based on the facts. I don't think you understand what PTSD is or what it causes and yes I do.
  24. It is about keep swinging for the fences. We need to draft a rookie, develop Corral and find a veteran qb as a backup or starter until the young guys are ready. I want a winning season this year and am doubtful that who we get in the draft no matter who it is will be ready to start day 1.
