The 2014 NHL Draft is just over a month a way and currently there are two prospects that have caught my eye.

The Carolina Hurricanes have the 7th pick in the upcoming NHL and draft and as you know the 7th pick has been good to them (Jeff Skinner).

Ron Francis has said that the Canes need to get bigger which has helped me limit my prospects to two candidates: Nick Ritchie from Peterborough (OHL) and Jake Virtanen from Calgary (WHL)

Nick Ritchie, 6'2", 230 lbs. Right Wing... NHL Comparison: Jamie Benn

Ritchie is your prototypical power forward. He has great size, decent skating ability, and a really good shot. In 71 games, Ritchie recorded 44 goals, 40 assists, 84 points, 150 PIM's, and a -1 rating. Ritchie could potentially fit well on a line with Brock McGinn centered by veteran Manny Malhotra with the potential to move up to become Jordan Staal's line-mate in the future.

Tlusty - E. Staal - Semin

Gerbe - J. Staal - Loktionov

Skinner - Lindholm - FA

McGinn - Malhotra - Ritchie

Dwyer - Nash
