Keys to a successful season, IMO

The Panthers averaged 31.5 rush attempts per game last year and just 25.9 pass attempts. Delhomme isn't a carry-the-load quarterback. In 32 starts over the last 3 years, he's thrown 30-plus passes in a game just 13 times. Carolina's record in those 13 games: 4-9.

This beat writer hit on a stat that I haven't thought of in a while ^^^

If JD averages more than 30 pass attempts per game we are in for some trouble. I hope the run game is stronger than last year as this will significantly improve our chances for a winning season.

ESPN also has predictions of team's finishes heading into the regular season. The consensus for the Panthers among the voting panel was 2nd in the NFCS. The votes were all over the place from 1st to third--actually with more 3rd place votes than 1st place. The key concerns with the third place voters was Jake. They pretty much all agreed that our run defense and injuries at key positions (depth issues) could derail the season. However, the panelists that dogged Jake were the one's mostly giving us third place votes.

FWIW, The Falcons got all 1st and 2nd place votes and the Saints 1st and 3rd. It's funny, if the Saints don't finish first, they will finish THIRD. Tampa was a consensus 4th place.

That stat is misleading. I did research on all the main starters in the NFL for last year for another thread awhile ago and the only ones who were successful W-L wise when they threw 30+ passes were the QBs who had top 10 scoring defenses.

I think when you look at all the starters as a whole, this may be true. But when you break it down per team, it would make sense that the less Jake has to throw, the better the chances of us winning. Don't get me wrong, I actually support JD. I think he is more than competant to run our offense. I get frustrated with him.

    • When you have to bring up college to defend Young after there is 16 games of tape its probably best to delete the post before hitting submit.   His college play is totally and completely irrelevant at this point.
    • Yes... he threw some beautiful deep balls to Williams 3 years ago.... but he didnt do it the next year at alabama or last year in the NFL.  This has already been pointed out and serves hardly any purpose to be relevant now. Its the same as someone still posting his college highlights. Mingo couldnt make any adjustments because bryce flat out missed him.   Mingo stat. Lost yards on uncatchable balls - Carolina Panthers - Carolina Huddle
    • They won't draft another QB the owner loves him lol. And once they pay him his help level will decrease. What a waste of a great roster and coaching staff. The media wrote them off half way through the season last year because they were so weak against contenders. McDan will get fired after that extension when they are still not winning in the postseason and I am curious how he matures through that process. His 2nd HC gig could get someone a SB, his talent is there for sure.  The bar is so low it's in the ground. People are just losing their minds with another Tepper quality Panther year lined up while others are just doing fan things, irrational to anyone but them but that is also normal in any fandom. I go away for a bit and come back for the laughs. Poor fans, it's freaking bleak and this go around isn't much better than the last just some changes in the SSDD approach that has been the norm the last couple of years. Sign the best OGs for too much and then use scraps at center just lol.
