Does Hearing This Not Make You Feel Like The Biggest, Badass, Casanova In Your Zipcode?

LOL, I just had this conversation with a friend the other day and according to them, "Miguel isn't even on my radar."  But, they think Frank Ocean is the truth, LOL.

Music is subjective and obviously, any one given artist/sound will draw a wide array of responses.  But, who would you argue is better?  And be careful with your answer, or you may be the next victim of this finisher:

I like Miguel's stuff a lot. Kaleidoscope Dream was awesome from start to almost finish. That Candle in the Sun song was a huge bummer on what was otherwise an awesome album.

And he almost pulled off that flying triangle on that chick, he just wasn't able to figure four his legs...

Thank you for having incredible taste in music lol.

Man, tbh, I quit listening to radio awhile back.  I mainly rely on word of mouth or occasionally perusing recently released streams or iTunes top albums/singles and deciding what I like from there.   I quit mainstream radio and videos because so much of it is fake, industry-generated images and sounds.  And his leg drop there was actually the first I had heard of him, but I still didn't know much of who he was musically.  What I had knew of him, I assumed it was more hype than substance.  My wife actually still listens to radio quite a bit and let me hear one of his songs and I felt like I had been waiting my whole life to hear it.  So, I out of curiosity, I went and downloaded the rest of Kaleidoscope Dream and I was absolutely blown away.   Very few albums you can listen to and love from start to finish, and that was one of them.   I became a huge fan.  I felt like the R&B artists I had grown up with had fell off and just no longer had a creative drive behind what they did (*ahem* usher! *cough*).  And I found out he actually helped write some of Usher's more recent hits, which have been fewer and fewer recently.

Furthermore, I read stuff and saw interviews from him where he described his process in making music as well as his influences (Prince, Bowie, Police, Queen, etc.).  What pulled me in even further was a quote he gave about how riffs "should be simple but catchy," which I think lays the template for lyrics to effectively tell a story in a concise manner...   Which he does.  But it struck a chord with me too because I'm still trying to learn the guitar, and some of his songs kick ass but are relatively easy to learn for me, so it's awesome to be able to play along with music I actually dig, A LOT.

Kaleidoscope Dream is basically an hour-long soundtrack for fuging. It was my favorite album of 2012-2013, since it dropped so late in 2012.

I enjoy mainstream R&B, and The Weeknd's new album has a bunch of good stuff on it. It's more pop than Kaleidoscope Dream was, but it's similar in that a lot of the songs are good and they make the album as a whole good.

Man, D'Angelo is awesome.  As an instrumentalist/musician, he has to be among the greatest minds to ever do it.  But, man, he lost me with this last album.  Nothing caught my ear like it did with Brown Sugar and especially Voodoo.  Mind you, Voodoo was one of my favorite albums of my teenage years.  But this latest endeavor, maybe it was because I waited so long for his next album, it just felt underwhelming to me.

I'm a big weeknd fan too, but I also think his new album was extremely bland.  I described it to one of my friends as being like one of those comedy movies where the funniest parts were in the previews.   You go to the movie expecting more, and realize the best parts were in the trailer.  His singles for this album had me hyped, but then I streamed the album and just wasn't moved.  He is super-talented, but I don't think he put his best effort into this album.

But, opinions are like, you know...   And I'm just another one lol.

Like you said, your taste in music/movies is completely subjective just like your taste in food.

I've never heard of Miguel but I thought it sounded decent, interesting. You can't get the full vibe on a one and done listen sesh. I am part of the generation that started watching MTV, oddly enough now I rarely think the video does anything for the song. I'll give it a second listen.

Can autotune just die already? So glad I am not an exc at a music label, cuz nobody would be producing sh!t if they can't sing.

I'm not a fan of auto tune either, but it has had its moments.  Regardless, I don't think I've ever heard Miguel use auto tune.  Not in this song either...  He has used reverb and like a fuzzy distortion effect though.

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
