It's already the topic of a thread in the forum, but this article at SI is excellent:

The people who are still focusing on all the ancillary crap are missing out on the fact that Newton is playing really, really well this season. The Panthers went to 10–0 with a 44–16 thrashing of the Redskins on Sunday, and Newton threw a career-high five touchdown passes. Those five scores, thrown to five different receivers, tied him with Tom Brady for the moment among quarterbacks with 26 total touchdowns: 20 through the air and six more on the ground. Newton tied Steve Beurlein’s franchise record for touchdowns in a game and threw four touchdown passes in the first half alone. He’s doing all of this with a heavily depleted receiver corps that was scuttled with the season-ending injury to Kelvin Benjamin, and tight end Greg Olsen is the only target Newton can consistently trust.

[...]

The Panthers overwhelm teams with everything from pure wham power pulls to triple-option looks, powered by the fact that in the 6'5", 245-pound Newton, they always have an extra rushing threat who can break tackles and make plays beyond the norm.

And yet, you’ll still hear that this Panthers team has a low offensive ceiling. Perhaps it’s because in today’s NFL, people are used to high-octane passing offenses ruling the day. Never mind that the 49ers and Seahawks, who have represented the NFC in the last three Super Bowls, did so with a very similar style to Carolina’s. But the Panthers have scored at least 20 points in each game, and on Sunday, the ways in which Newton made those five touchdowns happen showed why there’s a hidden gear to this offense.

The win against Washington marked Cam's fourth game this season without an interception.  (Tampa - he did have a fumble; New Orleans, Tenn & Washington)

He and the team have now gone two weeks in a row with no turnovers, and 24 drives without a turnover.

Our takeaway stats, and our net turnover points stats are through the roof.

http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/team-takeaway-giveaway-statistics/2015/

We lead the league in total takeaways (25)

We lead the league in interceptions (15)

We're tied for the lead in fumble takeaways (10)

We lead the league in points off of takeaways (88 points)

We have the second fewest points allowed on giveaways (15 points allowed) even though we're only 10th in terms of fewest giveaways (12 turnovers allowed)

We're tied for the best turnover ratio at +13

In 2014, for the entire season, we scored 84 points off of takeaways, and allowed 75 points off of giveaways, so we've already scored more points off of takeaways this year than in all of last year.

In 2013, our net turnover points stats were also awesome - quite similar to 2015's stats so far:  94 points scored on takeaways, 22 points allowed on giveaways for a net of 72 points - that was 4th best in the league.

The PFF Summary and top 5 grades for the CAR - WAS game are in

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/11/23/pro-was-car-grades-newton-kuechly-slice-through-washington/

Carolina Panthers

– Cam Newton (+2.5) was clinical when not facing pressure, obtaining a 72 percent completion rate and a +3.5 grade. However, when Washington was able to get to Newton, the Panthers’ passing game struggled. He only completed 33 percent of his passes for 6 yards when pressured. Newton was highly effective between 10–19 yards, especially in the middle of the field, where he only had one incompletion on six attempts.

– With the Panthers blowing out Washington early in the game, most of Carolina’s starting players played under 40 snaps. Luke Kuechly (+3.3) continued with the high level play that we have come to expect. He was all over the field and racked up four stops on five tackles, and also forced a fumble on a running play, where he was able to punch the ball out of Matthew Jones’ (-2.6) hands.

– Josh Norman (+0.2) had his second-lowest grade of the season; he too was able to force a fumble, this time against Jordan Reed, but allowed all four passes targeted at him to be completed. Those four passes went for a total of 33 yards, and he allowed minimal yards after the catch.

Top performers

LB Luke Kuechly (+3.3)
QB Cam Newton (+2.5)
CB Bené Benwikere (+2.4)
S Roman Harper (+1.9)
OL Amini Silatolu (+1.7)

    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
    • Except it wouldn't be Rodgers leading them on a postseason run, it would be the defense and he's there to not screw up their great games. Which is why..... This times a million. I didn't watch a ton of the Jets last year, but from what I did see, Rodgers himself didn't look like a bum, the team just struggled and was more than likely due to poor coaching on the whole.  The Steelers don't need MVP level Rodgers to win games, they just need him to be good enough to make some plays when it matters because the defense is keeping them in games every week regardless. In their 7 losses last season, the Steelers scored 10, 13, 17, 17, 17, 19, and 24... while giving up 19, 20, 24, 27, 27, 29, and 34 in those games.  With only marginally better offense last year, they probably end up winning a few more games too. They only scored over 27 points in 3 games last season. I think this is a great move by the Steelers and if Rodgers can stay healthy all year, will get them back into the playoffs and could make some noise if their defense is up to the normal level of a Steelers defense.
