Non-Conformist in a Conformist Society

The culture within the NFL, fans included, is a microcosm of societal norms and this has extended to Cam. For the most part, people can tolerate a winner because it's a model they can follow to be successful themselves. They don't understand every nuance of it but they will follow each other even if the winner leads them off of a cliff, much in the way that sheep follow each other.

It's a safety mechanism and a way to ensure that an individual is not left out of a group. These people could be considered followers as they are constantly being looked to for guidance. However, unlike sheep, people are able to understand what they are following and do so on a semi-conscious level that enables them to recognize other patterns and certain behaviors they may not agree with but tolerate i.e. dancing, selfies, sitting alone, being left out for high fives.

When the winner begins to lose, those who were not necessarily fans but were tolerable will turn. Those who refused to fall in line are vindicated and line up to let everyone know that. Then you have Cam. Cam will be Cam and he has earned the respect of the people who matter in his life to be able to do that and be comfortable with it. Being the non-conformist he is, this will not sit well with the sheep as he will continue to go on the path that he's been on and dare others to follow. What is uncomfortable about this is the path he is following has been walked down many times but there are forks to be taken, and maybe a shorter path to the top or simply a different route. This route took him off the podium and back to the locker room.

That is something intolerable to those sheep who want answers. The only thing you have to do is keep walking, keep dancing, keep dabbing, keep doing you, because you are the reason you are there.

Junior College National Championship

BCS National Championship

NFL Rookie of the Year

NFL Offensive Player of the Year

NFL MVP

3x Divisional Champion

1x Conference Champion

Most games with a rushing and passing TD in NFL History

First QB with 400 yards in first two starts

First QB with 35 passing TD's and 10 Rushing TD's

Played with a broken back, ribs, and a (needing to be surgically repaired ankle)

The path may not be as beaten, but it's clearly heading in the right direction regardless of the stops made along the way. Keep on walking. Everyone else who is able to think the situation through will Keep Pounding.

Happy Off-Season!
