Avenged Sevenfold

Undoubtedly one of the most creative bands today. Each album changes. Updates on the new album say that it may be a concept album, and it's supposed to get back to more "classic metal". They also want to go back to longer songs.

I heard a song called Unwind the Chainsaw streamed for like 10 minutes on their website before it was taken down. I haven't actually heard it and can't find it so I dunno if I believe it.

They sold out after Waking The Fallen.

Call it what you like. They have fun playing it and aren't lumped into a specific genre, which was their goal. Waking the Fallen was great, but City of Evil just had so much more to it. The self titled album was "experimental" in their words. Not my favorite album, but not bad. Wanting to create accessible music isn't selling out if it's what you like.

I didn't say I didn't like it, they are a kick ass band still. They went away from their metal roots and went more towards mainstream rock, which is selling out to me. I still like their music. The Rev is one of my favorite drummers.

Thats how they used to sound Dimbee, just in case you haven't heard it before. I freakin love The Rev, he is beast.

This, however, might be one of the best music videos ever.

Generic? That's an, umm, interesting adjective to use...

Agreed. In fact, they may be one of the furthest things from generic. They are always changing.

Also, I have read online in certain places that the next album is going to be more classic metal. Apparently Shadows has said to expect longer songs on this album, and potentially a concept album might come out. They admitted that the Self Titled album was very experimental, and this album is going back to their roots and influences. Hopefully so.

Generic in that they aren't really special. (in my opinion)

The guitarist is very good, and the drummer is a capable one, but the vocals aren't anything to write home about (at least after WtF) and his melodies don't make up for what he lacks in that department. The bass is non-existent on most of their songs, partly due to how detuned the guitars are and how talented the lead guitar player is. I feel like if the singer would sing a little more melodically (kind of the step they took with CoE) instead of yelling (after WtF, he's really bad at it) and if the songs had a little more bass and little less crunchy guitar then they would be on the right track. As it stands however, they are just an okay band with a talented guitarist.

Hmm. Well I essentially disagree with everything you just said. Bass is quite prevalent in the Self Titled album. They even added 808 blasts for the "bottom drops out" effect. Scream is one song where the bass really shows up. In fact the bass makes it heavier since they don't tune way down or use massive amounts of distortion on rhythm guitar. The Rev is a good drummer when he chooses to be. Some songs are great, some are just groove oriented. As far as Shadows being an average vocalist, I'm not really sure how you come to that conclusion? There are VERY few vocalists that can do the things he does.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though. Just giving my points of view!

    • 4610 total yards 27 total touchdowns 8 yards per attempt. Completion percentage was usual Cam ie mediocre or below at best at 57.7 and 86.2 passer rating. But the man scored points and moved the ball at will often. Compared to 2652 total yards 21 total touchdowns 6.3 yards per attempt completion % 60.9 82.2 passer rating. Let's just not do things like this. We can acknowledge Bryce improved (from realistically a bottom 5 QB) and hope he can work his way within the top 15 this season without dragging Cam Newton into it and unintentionally diminishing him. That's all I got to say. Carry on.
    • I personally think you are trying to talk yourself into circles here... It's ok to say Bryce played incredible the last 5 weeks... I know there are plenty of people on this board who desperately need the doom-and-gloom narrative, but I genuinely question how much NFL QB play some of these people really have watched when they still question him being the unquestioned starter for next year...  Again, that being said, no one is crowning him at all. I think Bryce is one of the best stories going into 2025 bc his season last year was so outlandishly unprecedented. It's totally fair to personally not believe in Bryce. Plenty of sports "journalists" need to write stories, and that's an easy narrative path... But I think that actual people in the know rank Bryce much higher. That's the fun thing about sports... we shall see!
    • Regardless of how we got here, any rational fan should be excited by how well Bryce played down the stretch. Anyone not happy about that level of play either doesn't know what they're looking at, or they're still trying to drive tired narratives. Obviously, Cam had an all-time rookie season, and I'm not putting the two in the same basket yet, but as someone who has watched every snap of Panthers football since the start of the new millennium (Im old), Bryce was playing at a higher level at the end of 2024 than Cam was at the end of 2012 (his 2nd season). Cam continued to develop into MVP form, something Bryce has to prove, but as someone who watched both (and will stan for Cam always), Bryce was playing at a higher level to end year 2 than Cam did.  Go watch the film if you dont believe me. None of that means anything for the future. But the people who said BY9 couldnt play in this league are wrong.   That being said, the only thing that matters is this year. #20 is perfectly fair IMO going into the season. I mean think about it, how would you rank him??!  His in-season turnaround is one of the wildest things I've ever seen... how do you rank a guy who looked like a massive bust in September and by January was consistently playing at a top 10 level? My excitement level is pretty damn high heading into this season. There were throws from the Chiefs game onward where Bryce had Drew Brees levels of anticipation. Im excited to see what he can do with a full deck on offense, something we really never gave Cam. Really hope and expect Bryce to move up this list this season.
