Having TWO games back to back with only 1 penalty was pretty shocking to me!  I had not really noticed the near absence of penalties vs. the Saints as there was so much negative to focus on.  I entered the data into my spreadsheet but it just didn't register...  

I even asked Bill Voth if the 1 penalty vs. the Patriots was a new low for the Panthers.  Imagine my embarrassment when he replied - "nah, they've had 0 penalty games before and just had only 1 penalty vs. the Saints last week too!"

I was clueless.  

I like the low penalties number because it shows we're controlling some of the factors we can control.  Can't control injuries.  Can't always account for other team's strategies or matchup problems as well as we'd like.  But keeping penalties low, preventing opponents from racking up return yardage.... things like that make a large difference over the course of a season.  It shows focus.
