Boy! I had it all figured out. Never did I think that our defense would let Ward run all over us. We held down The Burner, LT, Forte etc., but for some reason---on our biggest stage---we let Ward punk us on a national stage. Wow! Spare me the excuses! The absence of one person does not account for the absence of determination and heart for our whole defense. Blame the DC all you want but he wasn't the one playing the game.

I am trying to figure out if we were that bad, or was the Giants O-line that good. Or both? In any event, we have to focus on the positive. It's obvious that we could have (and probably should have) won that game last night. We are still an elite team in the NFC, but we had better get back to focusing on playing every single down, like I have said all season. In the end, it may be a good thing that we found a way to lose (in a manner that was previously unthinkable), because not only is beating the Giants a couple of times in the season a tall order, but beating anyone when you are not prepared on the defensive side of the ball is extremely difficult.

But, we haven't made it to 11 and 4 for nothing. And we all know that our defense has, and can, do better than what was put on display last night.

Don't lose your optimism! Now we can all take our heads out of the clouds, and our defense can take their heads out of their posteriors and focus on playing every single down, every single game.

      I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.

      Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.

      Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
