ACL's and MCL's

Whenever a player sprains one or the other like TD did, they almost always end up tearing the other in most cases, or the sprained one. I'm no doctor, but if I can pick up on this as a fan, you would think professional doctors would have enough sense to tell a coaching staff to sit the player for 2-4 weeks before he tears one or the other.

Not necessarily true. Beason sprained his and he is fine it appears. Moose and Rosario both sprained theirs as well.

Davis just had a freak accident. When I tore my ACL playing racketball it was a freak accident as well. My leg went one way and my body went the other. Is is certainly possible to tear one or both and some guys do sprain the MCL and later tear it or the ACL. In my case for example I tore the ACL and didn't tear the MCL. I suspect that spraining the MCL makes the joint weak for a while though.

But seriously with the millions of bucks they pay these guys, if they were likely to get more injured, they wouldn't play especially as careful as we seem to be.

They play them because of the money! Remember Patrick Jeffers? His career was ruined cause of our doctors. I tore my ACL stepping off a sidewalk. How did you have yours repaired? I mean what did you use to put it back together?

It cuts both ways you don't want to sit a guy who you have invested millions in but you don't ruin a guy or abuse a multimillion dollar investment who gets paid whether he plays or not. Jeffers was ruined because the surgery didn't work.

As for me I had to have it surgically repaired and rehabbed for a year. THey didn't use cadaver ACLs back then but a piece of the patella tendon so you had to rehab the ACL and the tendon as well. It still isn't as good as new but that is the difference between surgery in the 80s versus how good it is now.

Have you had your repaired? If not the surgery can be done athroscopically and you can be back to work in weeks. Not so bad although rehab goes on for several months.

They cut a portion of my hammy out and used it. I researched it and found out it would be stronger than it originally was. It takes longer to heal, but I had no problem with my job, so I went that way!

Hope it works out well for you.

Its been three years, I can do all I did before! To be honest, I wish I could get the other knee done. That leg is stronger than the leg which didn't get hurt, and feels more stable. The people I talked to, who convinced me to go that way, told me the hamstring was about 3 times as strong as the original tendon. Now, I believe them!

Here's the issue, TD sat for 5-6 weeks so he had completely healed by the time he was practicing again, and either way you know he was begging to play again so either way you can't really put this on the training staff. The Patrick Jeffers situation was a bit different...

He didn't play, but he lifted and did a good portion of practices, so he never got the total rest he needed. The other guy, Patrick, did was he was told to do because he had finally made it as a play maker after moving from team to team. They put him out there on the field with bone to bone rubbing in his knee, and I'm not sure if they paid after the suits, but they should.

He didn't practice at all until the week before he came back.

All I know is we have too many leg/foot injuries on this team

They need to do more focus on those parts of our players

That poo is so unpredictable, although some genetic research shows promise, that it is virtually immpossible to focus on it. It is one of those things that no amount of stretching or lifting will really prevent it
