Lawsuit could pave the way to pay college athletes

The key to this order is that it opens the door to the discovery process, and we soon can begin collecting evidence from the NCAA, taking depositions, and uncovering everything that it wanted to hide and keep from the public's and athletes' view," Jon King, a lawyer representing the players, said in an e-mail Monday.

So if this goes thru, what is a fair amount? Will a player on a large revenue generator make more than a tennis player etc? Who decides this?

Collegiate athletes ARE paid. They attend (free of charge) some of the finest universities in the country. Many of the schools have tuition, books, room & board, etc.. that exceeds $50,000 per year.

I do not have a problem with college athletes receiving a modest monthly stipend to help with incidentals....pizza, dates, etc... Given their schedules, most are prohibited from even holding down part-time jobs. They don't even have the cash to take a date out for pizza and a movie.

Modest stipend....Yes.

major payments....No.

Pay them exactly what the scholarship is worth. Fail a class, no dinero. Leave early, funds go back to school's general scholarship fund.

Think of the unintended consequence to some degree though. Some schools don't generate the same revenue as other schools and can't compete finanacially paying kids the same as say a USC or Texas.

Base pay on grades, going to a bowl, cost of living in that city. 100 in LA is much different than Boise. So are grades, *cough*.

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
