Speaking Of Rhys

The Saltman

Well, he averaged about 1 yard shy of his 2008 mark. We've also heard from practices and training camp that he can kick 50+ field goals.

PLUS he's English, and that is totally not expendable...duh.

I think before we worry about our kicker we need to work on making our entire special teams unit better. Doesn't matter if we can kick it deep into the end zone because opponents will still run it out knowing how bad our coverage is.

It isn't either or. Kasay is under contract and Rhys isn't. It is spending additional money on a guy who frankly didn't look that great last year and has not shown accuracy in field goal kicking. I expect Rhys will have a hard time finding a full time job this year. It isn't as if there are many jobs in the NFL given each team has 1 kicker. He might get invited to another camp but that is a far cry from becoming the starter.

When has he been given a chance to? Last time he kicked a field goal was 56 yards for the Ravens in Preseason of 07....if they never give him a shot how was he supposed to get experience... and there are PLENTY of jobs available....do your research before you talk crap!

Lets admit it if Panthers are doing a "youth movement" then why the hell would they keep the oldest guy on the team?

So far all he does is kick off. There are hundreds of guys who will work for peanuts who can kick the ball in the endzone. He is totally expendable and frankly last year had trouble kicking it deep when the weather got cold. He squibbed most of them in December and January.

Do you people ever think before writing these things. You obviously have never played sports in your life...sometimes you do not have to kick it in the end zone...sometimes if there is a good receiver you do squib type kicks to keep it away from them...especially when the special team's coverage is HORRIBLE!
