Official Atlanta Braves Thread

When Nate came to bat earlier in the game with the bases loaded, 1 out, I just said damn. I knew he was going to strikeout and cost us a chance of atleast getting 1 run for Kawakami last night. That one run was the difference in the game. Melky doesnt have a high BA, but he's been swinging a pretty good bat as of late, I'd rather have him in there everyday. The Braves really need to do something with Nate, and go after another OF. When he crashed into Jason, I just held my breath, hoping Jason wasnt hurt. Glad he was alright.

I'd been holding out hope for KK to turn things around. Last year he started slow but played really well after the first two months. But after last night, I'm convinced he needs to go to the pen. When JJ returns, KK better be in the pen and not Medlen. And if someone goes down or we need someone to make a spot start I'd like to see Resop given the chance.

KK should be making the spot starts over Resop once Jurrjens comes back. Dominating AAA hitters isn't that impressive to me. What I saw from Resop last night was the same thing he brought to the table two years ago: a straight fastball and flat off-speed stuff. Once JJ and Saito are healthy, the pitching staff should look like:

Jurrjens

Hanson

Hudson

Lowe

Medlen

Wagner

Saito

Moylan

Venters

O'Flaherty

Kimbrel

Kawakami

That's our best pitching staff 1-12.

It's hard to disagree with that. I think the advantage of giving Resop a couple starts is hoping that he does well and can increase his trade value, then ship him off in a package for another bat. Although if he sucks it could have the opposite effect. Maybe let him start against a shitty offense.

    • More praise of Renfrow from Tim Weaver (formerly of USA Today's Panthers Wire, now SI.com), and also what I told some of you, my Huddle friends, from the start: keep it all in perspective, and don't conveniently---and perhaps unfairly, discount and label Renfrow as a JAG when it was a very debilitating illness affecting his play.    "It's understandable to be skeptical about Renfrow's abilities at this late point in his career. After all, he missed all of last season due to a bout of ulcerative colitis that also took a serious toll on his production in 2022 and 2023."   When Renfrow is healthy, he's an above average guy. Being 29 may hurt or help his chances depending upon perspective, but 29 for receivers generally means that there's still (sometimes plenty) gas in the tank. Renfrow also obviously has plenty of motivation and has come with his game face.   "Then agan, seeing is believing and by all accounts Renfrow has been very impressive since joining the Panthers a few months ago... Where Renfrow will fit in Carolina's new-look receiver corps remains to be seen, but at this rate it's going to be hard to exclude him from the initial 53-man roster." https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/hunter-renfrow-sick-route-panthers-training-camp Read the room, ladies and gentlemen. And don't get it twisted; Renfrow isn't the most talented receiver on the team, but we have seen his ceiling, when healthy, in a Raiders offense that wasn't necessary replete with talent. Consider what he can do, especially in the slot, in a Panthers offense primed with young talent (no pun intended). From sick to "sick routes," eh?
    • That is literally what I am talking about. Those were 53 man cuts. Not at the beginning of camp.  I would say the odds of Barno being back are extremely thin.
