Pre-Season Will Be Awesome

Instead of years past full of Jeff Lewises, Randy Fasanis, Rod Rutherfords, Brett Basanezes, Chris Weinkes, Josh McCowns, and other useless/hopeless roster fillers, we get to watch entire games knowing each guy playing (except Cantwell) pretty much has a chance to show out and take over the starting spot.

I was already somewhat excited about the youth movement and the changing of the guard from Delhomme to Moore, but to have an actual open QB competition with the amount of talent 1-4 (technically 5 counting Edwards, but he won't be a FT QB apparently) on the depth chart??? It's gonna be exciting to watch.

I've already said I thought Clausen was a dick, but if the guy can play and our team can rally around him to win games, I don't care if he's Andrew Dice Clay with a helmet on, he's the man. I wasn't happy with the pick at first, but I love it now.

I liked Pike and mentioned him as a possibility during the season, I know he's got some questions, but the guy's got game.

I believe in Moore, but I also believe he's not one of Foxy's favorite guys and this may not work out in his favor. If it does, it's b/c he earned it and I know he's capable of being a good FT QB.

Cantwell's got a big arm and showed some glimpses of greatness last preseason. Don't think he's gonna be much more than a career backup though, just too inconsistent.

And I would love to see Edwards back there a few plays a game.

It's going to be fun and I'm confident in whoever wins the job from the pool of talent we have.

I know Pike is considered fragile and slight and there are some questions about his mechanics, but I really do think he's gonna be a pleasant surprise, even this year.

It's just gonna be great to see them each get a look and what they bring to the table individually.

Pike's issues were illustrated in the ass stomping Florida put on Cinnci.

He doesn't have great poise/armstrength/leadership.

Cinnci was basically unfazed by his not being on the field this past year.

Like Delhommey says Pike is a long term project pick.

No, not in the same sense as a Ray Lewis.

But he has had character issues in the past, and has a history of being unpleasant to fans.

Some people want to pretend Clausen is a drop of poison in an otherwise chaste soup.

Ahh I get your point now

Misunderstood ya.

Yeah you guys are right, I guess I'm just saying I like the pick and have hope for him (long-term), but I think Clausen will end up the starter. That's not an indictment on Matt, but I think Fox views this as HIS deal, and I think he's already given it to Clausen as long as he doesn't suck leading up to the season.

Great picks overall for the reasons they were made. I'm still excited to see how we use Edwards as well.

I didn't even mention how fun it will be to see Norwood go up against Anderson and Connor, all three guys have serious game, and they definitely get me hyped a lot more than Diggs did at that spot.

I didn't say Clausen was 'poison' or anything of the like.

Douche/dick maybe, but not poison. I really don't care what he is as long as he wins games. What we know that he is now - the greatest value pick of the draft.

I don't care what the guy does as long as he doesn't embarrass the franchise off the field or get in legal trouble...

And believe me, I've witnessed first-hand Smitty's level of douche-ness... Still my favorite player.

    • I don't necessarily think he will be moved, I would currently be leaning against that notion. I think a lot will depend on the coaching situation. Carroll certainly can't be thinking about wanting to go through a serious strip down and overhaul, so the longer he plans to remain, the less likely I think Crosby gets moved.
    • I think everyone says Mike Evans because of size, but really they have different strengths and play styles.  Tmac is better on intermediate routes and not nearly as good at contested catches.
    • At this point, it is criminal to go into the 2026 training camp/OTA's with XL penciled in as a #2 WR. The team must upgrade, either through free agency or the draft. If he cannot give 100% effort on significantly less snaps as a #4-6 WR(players like Tremayne have done that consistently) then I don't think you have a player worth rostering beyond the trade deadline. Offensively, we eventually have to upgrade to an NFL starting caliber C. It's been almost the length of time from Gross to Ikey since Kalil retired and we have below average to terrible C play. Love Mays as a BC-esque utility backup but he will never be an above average long term starting C.  The TE room is one of the worst in the NFL but it's a low usage position in this offense, so the investments are likely to be small, if any. I would never expect to see an elite TE in a Dave Canales offense. 100% agree on OL depth. We actually aren't bad there but BC will be gone, Mays is a UFA, Corbett is a UFA and Zavala has been both injured and bad. We have to bolster that depth again or resign guys like Mays and Corbett to keep that depth somewhat stable.
