And the worse part about that is companies like cracktivision have dumb@ss marketing people calling the shots on what games WILL and WILL NOT be made. Sad truth. It's caused a lot of good game ideas to fall through the cracks and be forgotten.

Really? Marketing execs are calling the shots on game dev direction?

I'm saddened by the lust of money these days. It's become out of hand.

I work in the Computer tech side of things... and I'll say the technology exists to make a games like no other. The raw horse power of current off-the-shelf computers were running entire businesses less than 10 years ago. The 3D-capabilities are coming close to the point where they rival or exceed the tech like what was used to make the earliest CGI movies (I watched The Last Starfighter last week... my comp could render thousands of times more polygons than was used in that movie).

And yet, we get garbage offerings all the time.

Kotick couldn't tell the IW guys what to do so they bounced. Treyarch...different story. ATVI puts their grubby lil hands all in the design. I was pissed when my buddy told me. They really don't care about quality. I used to test there years ago. They are the ghetto game company.

The average home PC now is capable of studio productions that are every bit as good as mid 90's professional production studios, and way better than what they had in the 80's.

Of course, analog studios still sound better than digital.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
