The Carolina Hurricanes may still pursue another defenseman in free agency to add to their top four.

"One option is we could sign a top-four guy and let McBain ease in more," said GM Jim Rutherford. "We think he's capable of playing in the top four but he is new to the league. The second option would be to leave McBain in the top four." If the Canes want to keep McBain in their top four then they may choose to re-sign Brett Carson or Alexandre Picard, who they let walk as unrestricted free agents. Brian Pothier also has an "outside" chance of coming back, according to Rutherford.
