Google Wave is dead

For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's basically email/IM/facebook/twitter/the entire internet rolled into one application. I remember watching their presentation from the IO conference last year and was absolutely blown b it. As a developer, looking at the things they implemented had me in almost complete denial - I simply couldn't believe they could pull off that kind of stuff in a web app. That was when I was totally convinced they had the best developers in the world.

My guess is that they're shutting it down because it does too much. I got my beta account and didn't really know what to do with it. I was waiting for more users to get on it but it never really happened. I guess it was just too ambitious for it's time. Maybe in another decade or so...

Basically it did everything but not well enough to keep everyone around. For example, you can't usurp Facebook as it's become so large that it's the de facto social site; getting support for a competing site would be difficult at best.
