Can we make a serious run at Haynesworth?

IMO, Albert Haynesworth was the NFL MVP this season.

Even though I think most people think we need help at DT, I didn't think before that we'd be able to offer him what it will take.

But with Peppers' salary set to come off the books, and with the possibility of clearing Lucas' and possibly others' salaries, I wonder now if this is a possibility.

One problem might be the timing. If we tag Peppers, even though we'd be planning to trade him, that would cost a lot of $$$. If the trade doesn't go through until later, I wonder if we'd have the cap room to have Peppers and Haynesworth on the roster at the same time.

Haynesworth, if he hits the FA market, certainly won't last long. But teams must be under the cap by, I think, early March. A Peppers trade might not happen until April.

On the other hand, there is room to clear cap money elsewhere. Lucas would save us millions, restructing Jake could save money, and obviously if Gross is gone, that's a lot of money.

I think Haynesworth would be worth a huge amount of money. If you look at Tennessee's d-line, he's the one that makes it go. He is so disruptive that pretty much any DE can look good playing next to him.

Haynesworth can't be franchise tagged by the Titans, so I think the chances are high that he hits the open market.

Just curious if anyone thinks this is a possibility.

We need help at DT, but we need help elsewhere and we can't tie all our money up on a single guy who has proven to be a discipline problem, only plays 8 games a year, and is at least as inconsistent as peppers. He's simply not that good.

Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports there is a battle brewing between Tennessee Titans OC Kevin Mawae and DT Albert Haynesworth. During the first practice in full pads, Sunday, July 30, Mawae and Haynesworth exchanged words during drills. They challenged one another, and at one point Haynesworth went out of his way to offer some words of advice to general manager Floyd Reese. Basically it was "Get Mawae off the field before I hurt him."

The Associated Press reports Tennessee Titans DL Albert Haynesworth has been charged with reckless endangerment after being accused of trying to run a car off the highway. Smith County sheriff Johnny Bane said James J. Bond filed a police reports and a warrant was issued for Haynesworth's arrest. Bond told police that Haynesworth swerved, sped and attempted to pass a car driven by Bond's mother-in-law on the shoulder of Interstate 40 on May 7. Bane added, "The affidavants feared for their lives and felt they were in danger, as well as other drivers around them." Haynesworth's attorney told police the player would surrender on the charges soon and he faces a $1,000 bail.
