Deadliest Catch team to make a coal-mining reality show

Exclu: Spike TV is set to announce a mining reality series from the producers of “Deadliest Catch.”

The network has ordered “Coal,” a docuseries chronicling the dangerous profession of coal mining set in West Virginia.

With the rescue of 33 Chilean miners drawing international headlines, the timely project should have little trouble generating interest from viewers and the media. But Spike executives note that “Coal” has been in development for nearly a year. The series is executive produced by reality powerhouse Thom Beers and his Original Prods.

The show will focus on Mike Crowder and Tom Roberts, co-owners of Cobalt Mine in Westchester, WVa., as well as the area’s miners, families and community members. The mining team has more than 40 employees, and "Coal" will show every major aspect of their jobs -- from planting explosives to surface mining to working in a traditional mine shaft.

The network will premiere 10 episodes of the one-hour series in April. Philip D. Segal is also an executive producer on the show.

    • Looking like it might be game 7 for Pitt and Phi. Philly is spent. I like more rest for the canes
    • Moton is the man through and through. 2 things I'll always give Gettleman credit for, 1 is drafting Moton, the other is building a SB contending roster and blowing it up in one off-season
    • Kurb is still alive and well.  I’m still friends with him on all of the social media.  He truly is a great man!  That’s my bro!  He always looked out for me since the early days of the huddle.  It definitely makes me sad that he just quit posting here, but that’s life.  He still shares his takes on social media and X, but a lot of the huddle vets just grew tired of this format and the environment, I guess?  It’s a lot of guys that were valuable contributors here that just stopped posting but are still alive and passionate Panthers fans.  Blindsite used to post huge write-ups and was a well-respected poster and then just disappeared.  We had one of these type threads several years ago and he checked back in and explained he just lost the motivation to stay active here.  It was amazing hearing from him again…   I signed up in 04 after coming over from the Charlotte.com boards and been here ever since.  (For those that don’t know - this is Proudiddy - had to change the name very recently due to ‘ol tootsie roll penis and the bad press 😂).  I’m forever thankful for all of you, even those who I haven’t had the greatest history with, I still appreciate yall.  Many have come and gone, both figuratively and literally, and that has put a lot into perspective over the years.  I went from a young, newly married, wide-eyed twenty year-old guy with a baby on the way, to a now forty-two year-old guy, recently divorced and newly re-married guy with my oldest baby now an adult and 5 more kids since.  And what ride it has been!  You guys have been a much bigger part of my life than I really care to acknowledge.😂
