why is Bill Cowher the answer to our problems?

And, just so you know, I have always supported the Steelers, and have made it known. Many people support an AFC team an an NFC team as a matter of course.

It's disingenuous to think that hardcore fans who grew up in the 70s and 80s would just abandon a team because another one comes into existence. Some may have dropped their olld teams and I respect it, but many continue to support their pre-Panthers teams, and I respect that. Just because some youngster doesn't have the longevity, experience or wisdom to appreciate that fact makes them appear foolish. It's hatorade, pure and simple. I am a Panther fan first and foremost, regardless of what anyone thinks or has to say about it, but I have always supported the Steelers and will apologetically continue to do so.

Agreed. Always been a Steeler fan. And was a 49er fan until they dropped Mooch.

Where did it go?

Its an obvious answer.

Playing winning teams in the 2nd half of the season.

Pure and simple.

The Steelers had the #1 defense, and also played the hardest schedule this year......

So that is no excuse, I don't give two sh*ts who we played, the defense sucked.

Just means our team is some soft bitches. We need a tough mentality and tough coach.

This is systematic and problematic of the whole attitude on this board. What in the hell has how the Steelers played defense this year possibly have to do with Cowher, (years removed from coaching)? Fact is, it doesn't.

Pittsburgh has a great defense, always has. But to quote how the current defense is playing as a testimony of a coach years removed from the team is ludicrous. Selective memory is not a quality...

Not against Cowher at all if it were to come to it, but let's be real people...

I was referring to the top quote in my response, I guess I should have just quoted that.

The point is your defense will be good or bad, no matter who you play.......

Just because we "all of a sudden" play good teams, is no excuse for a drop off in defense.

My example, (see the steelers) was the reference for such, see they play good defense no matter who they play.

Cowher had nothing to do with it............

So yea you can go ahead and disregard what you put, I know I have.

(they were talking about our defense and where it went on the first page)

The Squeelers got to play Cleveland and Cincinnatti twice, Baltimore (not known for offense) twice, Jacksonville, Washington, Houston; Philly in the beginning of the year, San Diego in the middle of their funk and Dallas in the middle of their funk.

They did hold New England to ten points.

Indianapolis scored 24 on them

Tennessee Scored 31 on them.

I'm not buying that they are the best defense.

Well darn, and here I was thinking that your approval was needed before they were anointed the best defense in the NFL.

Yeah Fox007. Like message boards aren't to be used for discussion or anything. They exist solely for losers like you to flex their internet muscles.

Good Work.

Please don't cry, it is just absurd even in your reasoning to say the Steelers aren't the best defense in the NFL.(or squeelers as you like to call them, implying your biased)

I might be. But it does need to be taken into consideration that they faced so many bad offenses, and other offenses at just the right time.

I dont buy into the crap that Football OUtsiders sells, but it might be interesting to see where they rank the Steelers in Defense.

Of course I knew this............which is why I immediately responded the way I did.

It is easy to say non-sense when your totally biased, or hate something.

(and I'm not exactly the Steelers #1 fan here)

    • Malcom Spence is the best player remaining, hope he’s there.
    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
