In the end JR will be looking good in this situation because of the direction he has taken last offseason and the upcoming one. All other teams that spent a lot of money and made a lot of moves i.e. Bears, are going to be left with a lot of headaches on their hands. The one that that isn't going to happen is the old system coming back. So, either the Salary Cap is going to be a lot more and players are going to be pissed that didn't get more OR the salary cap is going to be a lot less and players are going to be getting cut left and right, without jobs for the teams to get under the cap.

In other words, its not only smart for the owners not to be signing any contracts right now it's smart for the players not to be signing contracts.

It appears that Richardson has agreed to play the bad guy for the other NFL owners. I would hope that he has a better idea than most of what the NFL will look like after the new deal. If so, he could come out with a team in great shape versus the salary cap. As long as we start spending under the new rules, all could be great.

I doubt the owners as a whole would vote to put a hard cap in place that will force them to start cutting their own players they currently have signed. Owners of teams like Dallas, Washington, or other spending teams will never go for that.

Actually, they will. Because they, the owners, were a lot smarter than the players have been. Just look at the Julius Peppers contract in Chicago. At first it was reported it was worth x amount of money. Then some details came out that Pepper's agent got screwed and the team has the option of cutting Peppers and only having to pay out 22 million. Still a lot of money but no where near what Peppers thought he was getting in gaurentees. And the majority of that $22 million was paid out this year.

Same thing happed in Washington with McNabbs contract. Those are the only two I've really heard details about but you know owners have been using those tricks in every contract sence voting to end the CBA in 2008.

Except if Luck declares. Then all that salary cap we would have saved, will be eaten up some by his contract. Though with Jerry spearheading the negotiations, I'm sure he's well aware of what he needs to do to set up his salary cap over the next couple of years. One would hope anyway...
