Money should be the issue

Whether or not it matters to him is his choice but it has to matter for BigCat and the organization. If Pep stays, his cap hit is 16.683 million. His monetary hit over the past three years combined has been 39.492 million.

That would pay him $56,175,500 over a four year stretch. Owners and GM’s throughout the league are blasting the Raiders for signing Asomugha for potentially 45 million for just three years of future production. But at least they are paying for the absolute #1 CB in the league, no questions asked. Think about where Peppers is ranked with other DE’s in the league. Even if he gives us another 14 sacks next year, has his four year production been worth 56+ million? Think long and hard about that and make sure you weigh in the 2007 season.

Put it into perspective, Gross is going to get 60 million for six years. So based on the three names and amounts now mentioned, who do you think has the potential of giving their organization the least amount of production verses dollars paid?

Yes I realize that Gross and Asomugha’s contracts were planned and Peppers is a result of tagging and restructuring but intent is debatable, it’s the bottom line that counts. I think Pep needs to move on and the FO finds other alternatives. Everyone will be better off (except perhaps the new team that signs him).

    • if Jaycee gets hurt we are screwed.  I know the board thinks we are another year away, but I think we're closer, and I'd love to get a FA corner.    Constantly losing destroys a teams confidence and desire.  Winning helps build the team...the lockerroom gets confidence, and energy breeds off that.  I think the team will develop more as a unit when we win more.  And that will move us forward exponentially.   The Saints comment after we beat them the second time last year...."that's not the same team we played earlier in the season" is true.  The players bought into Canales, even those who went through the Rhule bullshit.  We just missed out on beating the defending Super Bowl champs last year.  Our WR and RB rooms are stacked.  Our big problem was the DL and we certainly addressed that this year.    Go ahead and build on defensive depth, get another CB.  Let's go for a winning record this year, it will help build our culture.  Finally a new culture.  It's been missing since Riverboat.
    • Yeah we would just hate a guy who put up 3900 yards 28 tds just a year off an Achilles injury. I'll just point out that Rodgers yards and TDs last year exceeded Joe Flaccos CAREER BEST season in his prime.
