An In-depth Sidney Rice and Wide Receiver Thread

Recommended Posts

I don't see people calling Miles Austin a one year wonder so why call Rice one?

Because Austin has had two good years. It'd be pretty silly to call him that. Those of us that know what we're talking about can identify that subtle factoid.

It's simple...when he is healthy he is a threat, pretty much like any other good athlete.

And he's rarely healthy.

It's not shun (you're trying to say dismiss) so much as it's putting it into perspective.

Jackson, Holmes, Edwards, Owens

Unless you're suggesting steve smith had chronic leg-breaking-itis, 89 is a far way away from Rice's mystery chronic hip condition.

Santonio Holmes is 5-11 and by Edwards please tell me you don't mean an unproven Armanti?

We need one, we have to unprovens in Edwards and Pilares which leaves us with a small gap. Say Gettis went down and Edwards is not producing. That leaves us with Smith, LaFell, and Pilares and for some odd reason, I don't think that will get the job done.

Charly Martin will make the squad if he stays healthy during preseason.

height doesn't matter. He's proven he can play and he doesn't get hurt. Maybe those extra inches will come in handy when Rice is trying to wheel himself onto the field.

And no, I do not mean Armanti Edwards.

Sidney has had one good year and Miles has had two, however Miles is also a year older than Sidney. People tend to forget that Rice is a very young player at only 24 he has the potential to be really good wide out

Height does matter. I don't see Belichek going after Holmes to put beside a slot like Welker. Holmes is just as much as a slot wide as Welker and Smith has already said that he doesn't want to be that number one guy anymore so if you put Smith in the slot and Rice on the outside with Gettis on the other side you have a formidable tandem of size, speed, and strength.

the biggest problem with a large USC fan base is that not only are they slobbering homers (just wait until Stephen Garcia comes/gets kicked out) but they're also not terribly bright. They might be the 2nd best college in south carolina but keep in mind their students are just 1 rejection letter away from like South Carolina State or Wofford.

I don't think WR is going to be as high a priority that some of you guys do. Steve isn't a free agent, he has two years left on his contract, and no one is going to want to take on that contract as it is. Plus, there will be a limited time to find a trading partner. Even if Steve is traded, I think OL, DT and CB are more important in FA than WR.

John Fox, is that you?

You can't have two Steve Smith's as your one and two guys. Holmes is just like Smith which is not what the Panthers need. They need a guy like Moose and to be honest, I think that guy is Sidney Rice.

wrong.

Are you one of those people that think each and every position can be determined by looking at height and weight?

What happens when Belichick lines Welker out wide, or plays Gronk in the slot, or ran trip rights with Moss lined up besides the RT.

Did your little head just asplode?

Austin is 26, why are you?

that is a completely negligible difference. Or, if you want to spin it around, Rice is already falling apart at a younger age :)

I am UNC Tar Heel fan if you would read a bio you could easily find that out but it would probably be to much to ask. So nice try and please stay on task unless you see the flaw in your argument as I do and want to resort to a side story such as thinking everyone is a homer.

I didn't say you were a USC fan, I was just speaking generally.

CarolinaPanthers8789: Sign Rice.

Everyone else: He's never healthy.

CarolinaPanthers8789: But when he's healthy he could be awesome!

CarolinaPanthers8789: But...he's tall!
