I Can't Take Anyone Name Blaine Serious...

So instead of going with the more "safer pick" Rivera and Hurney bucked the system and threw caution to the wind with the "most polarized athlete" in the draft. Something doesn't seem right with that one.

If it were Fox and Hurney I'd agree, this shows who the real conservative was and now Denver can deal with him for a couple of years.

Actually, it's true. I read it also on SB Nation for the Jags. The article has a beeming picture of Cam in his Panther's uniform instead of Blaine but the article is to show that Blaine is just as good as Cam.

Still don't know why they couldn't use a picture of Blaine instead of Cam.Strange.

I just went and looked at Rivera's comments, and I respect his opinion. He didn't really have much to say about Gabby, but what he did say was very positive.

I see no reason to bash Blaine Gabbert before we see what he's all about. We'd be no better than other fan forums bashing our players before a game. The part that worries me is that we have no "pro" film to learn about BG. Our last two opponents focused against our run game and blitzing a rookie QB. We lost but they got burned in passing yards. Both this weeks teams are looking for their first win. Bashing our opponents QB won't guarantee a victory.

Could you imagine if Rivera just came out and said "Gabbert? That guy ******* sucks." Of course he's going to say nice things. The reality is that a lot of top pro scouts and coaches rated him highly, and he could end up being a great QB. What saw from him in college, I was not impressed, but I'm just a fan.

I remembered reading somewhere during the draft that Rivera had given both Cam and Blaine a reduced version of the handbook. The talking heads were hinting that Cam would have a difficult time with the playbook, and how easily it would be for Blaine cause he was so "intelligent."

I seriously don't know how well Blaine will do in the NFL but I've always got the feeling that the media was building him up to be more than he really was.

I think what happened, as far as how the media judged Cam's intelligence versus Gabby, is that Cam struggles at times with speaking the English language. And Gabbert is more well spoken, and I think the media, and some of the public, made the mistake of thinking that Gabby would be the smarter football player for that reason. I don't think, for the most part, that it was a racial thing. The reality is that Cam is football smart, and I'm sure smart in other areas of life, but when he speaks I think people question him. I don't, but a little broken English can trigger certain people to question his intelligence.

Blaine will never receive the level of bashing Cam is receving from some on this site and everywhere else. I personally don't feel the need to bash Blaine's game but he just reminds me of the kid who lands the high paying job simply because he looks the part and have the right connection..

U really believe it was a mistake that the media kept trying to give the preception that Cam wasn't intelligent nor had the "intangibles" to be a top NFL QB like Blaine? U really believe that???

Anyway, Cam has a slight speech impediment. U notice it when he get nervous. He tends to studder a little.

Jax fan here. There is definitely still a perception that QB is a white position in this league. Stupid, but reality. I doubted Cam, but my doubts weren't his skin color. I just thought he was The Golden Calf of Bristol with a stronger arm. At this level every QB was a star in college, but I needed to see him play his style at this level when even the linemen run fast to be a believer. That being said Blaine came out of a spread offense and I have a hard time being convinced guys that play in that style can adjust. I think he has all the tools. One thing Cam has going for him is better WR's. Our unit would be practice teamers on other squads.

So u must think that Andrew Luck is The Golden Calf of Bristol with a good arm or is he Jimmy Clausen coming from a pro-style offense, right?

Also, since u feel that Cam needs to prove himself, do u feel the same should be said of Blaine?

    • The Seahawks won an emotional, divisional, overtime rivalry game vs the Rams on a Thursday night (Dec 18).  That gives them 10 days to prepare for the Panthers, but the Christmas holiday fell a week later--I bet they were afforded an extra day for travel-many coming back east.  Following the Panthers, Seattle plays at San Francisco for the division title (in all probability).   The Rams finish the season with games against the Falcons and Cardinals, two likely wins, pushing them to 13-4.  The Niners finish the season with home games against the Bears and Seahawks. Seattle finishes the season with the Panthers on the road and SF in California.   It is easy to see how preparing for the Panthers, during the holiday break and with the Niners waiting for them in SF a week later for (what could be) the NFC West title and #1 Seed in the NFC, could create the perfect trap game scenario.  The Panthers at home are 5-2.   In the past 2 weeks, the Seahawks struggled to beat the Phillip Rivers Colts in Seattle and then pulled off a miraculous, emotional victory at home vs. the Rams.  I am not convinced that they are as good as advertised. Seattle is a TD favorite in Charlotte.  I feel that Carolina by 3 may be more accurate.  While I am still not confident in this team's consistency and it never seems to dominate, it sure feels like a trap game for Seattle to me.  How could they NOT be thinking of San Francisco right now?  They are not used to being in this position (current players) and it is human nature.  Carolina 27, Seattle 24.
    • It is a tough decision.  There is another factor.  Is he in game shape?  A tired Hunt is not better than an "in-shape" Corbett.  When coming off an injury, it is natural to want to protect the injured area, even if it is completely healed.  This can cause you to contort your body for no reason, lose fundamentals, and it could lead to other injuries.  For example, I had a knee in high school that required getting taped.  That made me aware of the knee (not used to tape on my knee) and I pulled my groin (favoring or dragging the leg with the tape).  The trainer explained the groin injury the way I do here--but scared money makes no money.  If he is cleared to play, he is cleared to play.  Watch him, rotate him in for a series, etc.  Specifically, I would want to watch the matchup--who is winning more--Corbett or Hunt?  How is the defense reacting (if at all) to Hunt being in?  Etc.
    • Shannon was sued for $50 million (settled out of court, I believe) for forcing sex on his girlfriend during a two-year relationship.  He denies it, but ESPN let him go last April.  Chad Johnson's wife filed a police report because he head-butted her in a car and was put on probation. I had to google it.  I watched the Ray Rice video and when you see it, you realize just how vile and cowardly abusing a woman really is.  But for the same point Aussie tried to make, these women are defenseless, and being phyiscally bigger and stronger does not validate your actions.   I can't even stand to watch Steve Smith.  I can't normalize this kind of behavior--again, I do not think R-P had that in mind when he posted this.  When the reason was exposed, we should realize that we are talking life (quality of) and death (in some cases) here.
