ESPN News - Olney: 3-time NL MVP Albert Pujols leaves Cards, agrees with Angels on 10-year, $250 million deal

DALLAS -- Albert Pujols has agreed to a 10-year, $250 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney on Thursday.

The deal includes a full no-trade clause, which Pujols had been seeking and may have been a sticking point in his negotiations with the Miami Marlins.

Pujols had turned down an offer from the Cardinals, the only team he has ever played for, about a year ago, but St. Louis was still in the bidding as of Wednesday.

IDIOTS!

He'll be Marlin for sure

Doubt it. Mariners were pushing for Fielder hard and the Angels getting him will just ramp up their efforts.

I feel bad for Jered Weaver though. Took a huge discount to stay and then the Angels do this. Lol. Just lol.

Everyone is going to bury the Angels, but all they really need to do is fire hitting coach Mickey Hatcher. Hatcher has never been held accountable for a track record that is average, at best. Players like Pujols and Wells come in and struggle, while players like Napoli have moved on and thrived. Bringing in a hitting coach who the players don't see as a flaming dumbass would do wonders for the team.

Mickey was on the '88 Dodger World Series team with Scoscia so they go way back, dont know if Mike will blow him out.

Anyone remember Hatcher hit a 2 run home run early in Game 1 before Kirk Gibson hit his classic game winner?

Pujols has to be pressing, give him a day off Mike, dont even let him come to the stadium.

lol @ Angels for handing out, and I mean this, the worst contract in professional sports history(yes, worse than A-Rods).

the question now is who will hit a HR first, Pujols or Harper?

I got Harper, lulz.(seriously).

    • Yep, the Panthers powers that be seem desperate to convince themselves he can clear the bare minimum bar of demanding a legit franchise QB contract. Canales seems to be laying the groundwork here of building the case that all of Bryce's shortcomings are still there and even more glaring than you may have thought while his strengths aren't nearly as strong as you had hoped and aren't near enough to make up for the lack of pure physical tools. When you have historically anomalous lack of measurables you need historically anomalous positive intangibles to make up for it. That was always issue with Bryce as a prospect. Like Parcells said when evaluating him, "he better walk on water".
    • I'm honestly not sure how much "west coast" plays into it. There's a huge difference between Tucson, AZ and Spokane, WA where he spent the previous two decades of his career. Chapel Hill is significantly different than Spokane but way more similar to it than Tucson. You're talking about a pretty significant plane ride to get back home either way. He and his family would be flying private and direct so we're talking about a 3ish hour flight vs. a 5ish hour flight. That's basically a wash. It's not like he went from Gonzaga to another PNW program. Tucson is a dramatic departure from Washington state. Honestly a far bigger departure climatically and scenery wise than Chapel Hill would be.
    • When asked if he thought he was close to returning to game action, "When you skate just with the goalie coach, it's tough to understand what your level is. Today, Svech scored on me a couple — probably a bad moment for me. I don't know. I'm probably very far from play if he scores on me." God, I love Kucci!
