Dad- NFL

Disinfranchised

Recommended Posts

I was just remembering my first exposure to the NFL. Watching with my Dad. He drank a pint of liquor every day and a fith on Sunday. (He started in WWII, working in field hospitals near the battlefields in France.)

From this childs perspective: We only had black and white TVs. With the lines on the fields I thought they were playing on fields of asfault. The lines looked like the ones on parking lots I'd seen. Funny how kids minds work. I remember drinking beer from a ceramic coffee cup. My dad shared. NFL was great and something played in far away cities. Attending a game was not even a dream. We did not have Panthers back then. We had to watch whatever game was on. Probly the Skins. He hated the cowboys. He'd say "they killed the President". God I often wish he'd lived long enough that I could have taken him to a Panther's game. He would have been a Panther's fan I know. This calls for a beer. Come on all, let's hoist one to the old man.

Big 10-4 on the Daddy thing. Mine was a Don Shula fan and he pulled for WHOMEVER the Don coached. When Don left the Colts to the Dolphins....he went with them. I grew up watching the 70-80 Dolphins. Went to 1 Falcon game when they came to the South with him and he was in heaven.

Now my son has been to more PRO games than I can count thanks to the Panthers. Good memories man..........

My Dad has taken me to numerous Pro Sports games... NFL,MLB, NBA, NHL...

My fondest memories of us together are at those games, and him teaching me how to use tools and fix random things around the house.

My Father is still alive... We get along great, but I haven't talked to him in a few days. Im going to call him tomorrow and Thank him for being a great father... And I will vow to him that I will carry on the tradition with my own 10 month old son.

Can't imagine ever losing my Dad... I don't even want to think about what that will do to me... Getting teary eyed just thinking about it (no homo)

    • WR: Nico, Woods, Tank (R) TE: Schultz OL: Tunsil/Howard/Deiter/Mason/Fant vs. WR: Chark, Thielen, Mingo (R) TE: Hurst OL: Icky/Zavala (R)/Bozeman/Jensen (R)/Moton   Panthers' had the better OL before losing BC week 1 and AC week 4 which is kind of ironic considering how in the following year DB went down in W1 and Shaq in W4 resulting in the defense going all to Hell. CJ has done amazing in Houston, but he also wasn't asked to carry Zavala, Jensen, Mingo, Hurst, and Chark as a rookie.
    • Past 5 seasons, IMO CJ Stroud and Joe Burrow are the 2 best young QBs that have emerged in the league in that window.  They also didn’t need vets to be their primary pass catchers.  They helped fellow youngsters be great at WR.   almost all the other young QBs have been paired up with vets in their top options….and haven’t been as promising.  so it isn’t Madden.  But the league hasn’t played out as you suggest it does.   Good QBs make others around them better.
    • In 2023 their roster wasn’t stacked. They nailed the poo out of the 2023 draft and since they knew Davis Mills wasn’t the guy, they tanked properly to get pick 2. They also took Cleveland’s ridiculous offer for Watson unlike us with Burns. Houston received enough draft capital to jump up to 3 while picking up the right guys in Anderson and Stroud. The Texans were not stacked or better than us in 2023. They had 11 total wins from 2020 to 2022. They didn’t have a terrible front office so they made sure they got their QB of the future while tanking well and getting more draft picks. They are a textbook study of what we should have done in 2022/2023 offseason even though people in here still think tanking is a bad word and our culture would be bad if we were the Texans. We literally had the chance to be the Texans right now and fuged it up.
