The House I'm Renting May Be Foreclosed

OK, an update to the story. The house is indeed in danger of foreclosure if not already in the foreclosure process, although my landlord denies it. I keep getting mail for him from companies claiming they can help him prevent foreclosure. Not to worry though, I've already secured another house to rent and I move out of here on June 1st.

I mailed him a letter notifying him I wasn't renewing my lease in June, along with my rent check at the first of the month. Guess what the bastard did? He went ahead and listed the property for rent on Craigslist the very next day! Even before I'm out of the house. He must be desperate to rent it to somebody else. Anyway, I left him a voicemail letting him know I saw it along with a friendly reminder that my lease isn't up until the end of the month and I would recommend modifying that listing to say it won't be available until the 1st.

I'm not sure how this place is getting foreclosed on. I'm paying twice in rent on what I'm sure he's monthly mortgage payment is, AND he owns half of a seafood business with another guy. I'd sure would like to know what he's doing with the money he's making off me and his business.

Anyway, I have a question for those in the mortgage business. How are companies able to get your name and address during the foreclosure process, and how far along in the foreclosure process do you start receiving this type of mail? I'm just curious on how long this has been going on.

this place IS being foreclosed on. they are doing what's called BPO. Broker Price Opinon. The investor(fannie) is simply doing an eyeball test of the place to see what kind of shape it's in and see if anyone lives there.

good chance your landlord has been pocketing your money and trying to get behind so he can qualify for some type of loan mod program.

I have heard of this happening too.

Not sure if it is still goes on but banks were having a big problem with documentation the last few years. It led to the wrong homes being foreclosed on in some cases.

One guy's home had been paid off for years. Bank of America tried to foreclose on him and he never even had a loan with them.
