Msg Board questions for all you Techies out there

I'm starting a msg bard. Has nothing to do with sports, or women, so no competition for the Huddle. (I know if it doesn't have women, why join?)

Gold Prospecting & Metal detecting MSg board.

OK, vBulletin or phpBB?

Do I need a stand alone computer or does someone else host it? I do have a 3.6 Quad Core Desktop with 1 terra byte hard drive and either 8 or 10 gig of RAM. It's just sitting here collecting dust.

How much programming do I need to know, or is it "Plug & Play/Template?"

The only programming I know is Fortran IV & Basic. And it's been so long, I'm not every sure I remember those!

But I can hand pretty good with "Plug & Play/Template" type sites.

Zod? Anyone? Any and all suggestions are welcome. I'll even supply the beer!:cheers2:

Since no one else has responded, I will throw in what I know. I have run both phpBB, and VBull boards. Liked them both. Vbull costs $$ phpBB is free. Vbull has dedicated suport, phpBB, has has plenty of user support foums out there, so you can get the help you need on either one.

If you pay to have some one host it (host gator/Godaddy/etc.) you don't need any hardware, other than a pc to access your account.

you can do just fine without any programming knowledge.

there are plenty of plug and play templates for both, but they are also as user definable as you want to make them. both have tones of additional feature plugins, pretty much if you can think of it, there is a plug in to do it on either platform.

You really can't go wrong with either one.

Great!

I am leaning towards vBull, only because of being a newbie and if I screw something up, I want someone to talk me through fixing it. vBull V 4.0 Suite is only $285. I'm not sure, but I think you get a 30 day trail before you have to buy it.

I just this afternoon, got my name through Go Daddy.

What about e-mail accounts. Some forums I have been on won't let you register if you have a free e-mail. (Yahoo, Hotmail, gmail) Supposed to keep down spammers. With all the free e-mail accounts, I'm not sure that's a good thing.

    • The fans have given up, but I do not think the players have. Just winning 3 of 4 leading into this game, and then players accepting responsibility and not excusing away the terrible game has shown the locker room hasn't been lost.  This is the latest into the season our locker room hasn't been lost since the Wilks season, and then it was lost early due to Rhule and then re-gained late in the season. It's actually the one thing I like about Canales, that he seems to have forced a complete 180 in our locker room culture in his almost 2 years in charge here now.  That's still not good enough for me to want us to bring him back next year, as I think he's pretty bad in most other aspects of the job, but it was still something badly needed for this franchise.
    • Sign Taylor Heinicke, and start the shlow transfer of Bryce to the coaching staff. If he really in truly has a computer brain (just can't do it on the field), maybe he could call a decent game one day.
    • It's not something you want to happen, but again, it happens on every team in every sport and every season. Sometimes it doesn't cost your team the game and just makes a great team have a close game against a bad team, but it happens.   How do you think the Bills lost to the Dolphins this week? Same thing, they figured it was an easy win, probably didn't give their 110% attention/effort in the week leading into the game, expecting it to be a cake walk blowout win. And again, I'm not saying this is a good thing or that I'm happy it happened, but to pretend this is some groundbreaking revelation that is unheard of, is just asinine, it's the exact opposite of that, it's expected and mundane.
