Prisco's Panthers Draft Team Needs

This opinion has so many holes in it.

1. Nobody looked good or great in the 2010 offense. Using that year to judge anybody is a mistake.

2010 has nothing to do with this. Gettis only showed a couple of flashes, that's it. You can blame the poor offense if you want, but you can't change the fact that that's all he showed. Maybe he'll be the guy everyone wants, but it's impossible to know.

2. Lafell was the 4th or 5th target on this team. Smith,Olson, Shockey, Legadue, not to mention the Rb were thrown to more then him. So expecting him to have caught 70-60 ball when the main target only had 79 rec. is stupid. So I don't know where you get this set-up for big things crap.

It's funny that you include Naanee in this since LaFell couldn't even beat him out. Also, your just listing other receiving options on the team, but you have no idea how often LaFell was 1st, 2nd, or 3rd option. What we do know is that LaFell wasn't able to beat out a 2nd rate WR for the start until that receiver got injured. And using the "Naanee knew the system" excuse is silly at best. First of all, Smitty seemed to have no problem learning the playbook in TC, so there is no excuse for LaFell not to at least have had a solid grasp of it either. Also, Naanee wasn't initially brought in because the coaches didn't have time to teach the receivers the playbook in TC, he was brought in because Rivera wasn't impressed with what he was seeing from Gettis and LaFell in practice.

Also, I find your use of hyperbole quite funny. 4th, 5th option lol. And nobody said he should have had 60-70 receptions, just that his production wasn't anything stellar, and not enough to annoint him as anything more than a decent 2nd/3rd receiver at this point.

3. AJ green is more talented then any wr in this draft. Saying the team would have drafted him doesn't mean they don't like Lafell or Gettis. Green just had talent you couldn't pass on no wr in this draft is in his class.

Agree, AJ Green is far more talented than any receiver in this class, but if Rivera and Chud (after watching tons of tape) were sold on LaFell and Gettis being the answers at WR, then they would have been looking to fill other needs at that spot. As good as Green was as a prospect, there were other guys that were not that far off in ability and also filled a bigger need.

4. A healthy Gettis can make more of a impact in this offense then any rookie in this wr draft class.

He has equal or better skill sets then any of them.

He has pro exp.

He knows the playbook and been to all the team meetings last year.

He has already worked with Cam and 89 and Lafell.

Earlier you used the word stupid, well re-read this post of yours and you will know what that word really means. You have absolutely no reason to think Gettis will be better than any receiver in this class (other than blind hope and despiration to get Cox and only Cox in the first). Like I have said, Gettis only produced a couple of flashes as a rookie and had a very mediocre college career. So what in his history shows that he can make more of an impact? Unless you either make stuff up or imagine things that have not been demonstrated, there is nothing.

You said:

- He has equal or better skill sets then any of them.

Sorry, but this is silly, and not even close to the truth. Blackmon and Floyd are both far more complete and accomplished than Gettis can dream about at this point. Both have better hands, run better routes, are more explosive (notice I said explosive, not faster), and have actually demonstrated their skillset over a period of time. That's not to say Gettis can't or won't get to their level if he continues to work, just that he's not there now.

- He has pro exp.

This is true, and it's one of his current advatages.

- He knows the playbook and been to all the team meetings last year.

This is also true, so now you have covered pretty much all of the advantages Gettis currently holds over the top receivers in this class.

- He has already worked with Cam and 89 and Lafell.

Sure, he's worked with Smitty and LaFell, but that's only a fairly minor advantage. And as for Cam, Gettis has only had very limited time on the field with him since he's been on IR since early in TC and has spent most of his time rehabbing the knee. So he really hasn't had any real opportunity to form any sort of timing and cohesion with Cam.

Now to be clear about what I think. I do not have WR at the top of my want list, but if the team decides to go that route, I can understand their reasoning. Also, despite what it may look like, I actually like both LaFell and Gettis. I believe both can be very good receivers for us. I'm just not sure if either can be a legitimate #1, and think both have been severely overrated on this board. If the team feels they can get a true future #1, then I get why they would do so...especially if they are not in love with any of the prospects available that fill other needs.

You have to admit panther fans' lovefest for average TEs is well documented. Rosario was our last lovefest where I was bashed for saying he needed to go. Fans forget that coaches watch these guys in practice every day and they don't hold back talent as many suggest.

I was only making the point that nobody had demonstrated a lovefest for Barnidge, so I overstated the previous overstatment. Some people read far more into any positive comment on Barnidge than is really there. I don't think anybody thinks he will be some great revelation, just that they hope he can be.
