Guess we can as for my post

What I'm saying is you have a draft board with draft rankings.. Correct? You rank guys based off of potential, how they project as NFL players.

That's what the draft is all about, every single player in the draft is an unproven commodity in the NFL. The fact that one played in the SEC and the other in D2 only matters during evaluation. Once that's over and the board is ranked, it doesn't matter where you played at in college.

If you take a guy who's got a first round grade in the early second, that's a value pick regardless of where the player played.

That's all I was saying about the Value/reach factor. You can say he won't work out because of his college, but that still doesn't effect his current Draft Reach/Value factor.

yeah I see what you're saying

I just think a guy who has already faced the best DE's and DT's in the league (mostly from big conference schools) .. and has played well against them .. is easier to predict how they'll perform in the NFL .. since they're going to be up against those same guys they faced while in college

good point tho

True .. but if they've played against former/current NFL players while in college .. It's at least some indication they can hold their own on the next level

At least more indication vs someone who has NEVER played against elite competition in college

Here is a list of previous second round draft choices since 2002. .

DeShaun Foster,

Bruce Nelson,

Keary Colbert,

Eric Shelton,

Richard Marshall,

Dwayne Jarrett,

Ryan Kalil

Everette Brown,

Jimmy Clausen,

Only Clausen didn't play in one of the big conferences and he did play for Notre Dame against some decent competition at times. And the only one of the group to be significantly successful was Kalil. Based on the success (or lackthereof) of this group, maybe its time to try a small college player in the second round.

that has nothing to do with where they played

that's just bad drafting lol

there are PLENTY of other players from larger conferences drafted in the second round that do very well .. no need to reach when there are plenty of talented players available in second round

other teams seem to be able to find them!!

    • Malcom Spence is the best player remaining, hope he’s there.
    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
