Round 2- Carolina (6) vs. Boston (1)

I wish that I had watched all year. I saw most of round 1, and it was great to see it end the way it did. I can't wait for Friday night!

Well at least you are watching now. You got to see one hell of a series played, eh? I just hope we can keep up this level of intensity. I'm glad it was a great series, but I wouldn't have been opposed to more rest.

Should be another excellent series, both teams match up well against each other at this point. For the Canes to win, Ward has to continue to play excellent, the staal line has to keep up the intensity and pick it up scoring wise, and the defensive mistakes have to be kept to a minimum. If the team can do those three things they will win in 5 or 6 games, if not this one could be over in 5.

GO CANES!!!!!! I'm going with the Canes win in 6 with the Performance of Ward being the main reason we win. I also think that Staal will kill in this series.

This series has the potential to be as, if not more entertaining than the Devils series. As Merch said, we are a way different team than we were in February, Cam has been stellar, Staal is really beginning to become an elite player in this league and guys like Ray Whitney, Chad LaRose, Tuomo Ruutu, Eric Cole, ETC, ETC really know their roles on this team and aside from a few mistakes we have played as a unit and very smart.

The mistakes we made last night were very fixable, if we could just get Eaves to hang on to the damn puck then we really wouldn't have much of a weakness up front. The defense has been close to stellar, with Cam propping them up when they break down. To me Corvo is definitely the leader of our defense, but Tim Gleason has shown me a lot of heart and guts in the last month and I look forward to seeing those two lead the defense against Boston.

Either way it is going to be a great series and if I remember correctly it's redemption as well, last time we played Boston in the playoffs they took us out in 6. This time around I'm calling us in 6 in a hard fought, tough, gritty low scoring series.

The defense has been pretty close to stellar indeed. Occasional lapses and Anton Babchuk occasionally plays like the young'n he is. Definitely lacking the playoff experience. Cam Ward is usually there to clean up though.

We also need someone other than the top line to start producing. Staal, Whitney, and Larose have been amazing but I'd like to see some of the other lines score. Boston is a good team and Tim Thomas is a good goalie, but I feel if we can handle Brodeur, we can handle any goaltender.

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
