Mixed and no. I don't see how Clausen is making any sort of contribution for this team. He's not even the guy holding the clip board for the guy holding the clip board. I believe he was inactive for most of the games last year.

I knew Cam was staying with #1 the minute he started doing the "tear the chest part of the shirt" signature move when he scored. It's part of his image and success he relates to that record rookie season. No way he changes numbers now

He's on contract, and he's got enough experience to be considered a decent third string QB.

I doubt they cut Clausen unless he's just totally unprepared for the season. If he's worked hard at his job, then he'll probably be on the roster for the duration of his rookie contract, or until we get a late round draft pick for him, whichever is sooner. And if he's on the roster, it probably says something good about how he helps Cam and the rest of the offense prepare for the next game.

As for the number switch, Newton wore #10 in high school, #13 at Florida, and #2 at Blinn and then Auburn. For whatever reason, he doesn't strike me as the type who's superstitious about his number, and if he is then he's probably pretty happy with the mojo he laid down on #1 last season. If it was THAT important to him, I'm sure he could get that kicker to give Clausen #7 for a steak dinner, and get #2 whether Clausen is on the roster or not.
